A Brother Asks: Coach! I keep on hearing jokes about goats from my Brothers. I've looked high and low and can't find any association with goats in ritual. Where's the goat?

Coach: Parts of goats are displayed right on top of two officers' staffs?

Brother: Goat parts?

Coach: Yes, goat parts?

Brother: Okay, I'm looking at the insignias used upon all the staffs and I don't see any goat parts.

Coach: Of course you do.

Brother: No. I don't see them at all.

Coach: You do. You just don't recognize them.

Brother: Okay. I give up. Which staffs?

Coach: The Stewards'. steward insignia_01.jpg

Brother: All I see are weird looking squiggly cone shaped things.

Goat - The other red meat. It's what's for dinner.

Cabrito. Birria de chivo. Goat korma. Goat biriyani. Roast leg of goat. Goat stew with turnip root, turnip greens, diced leeks and some smashed pine nuts.

Young goats are called kids. The word for a bunch of them is mess. A mess of kids. It comes from the overlap of the word with young humans.

Old goats are called billies. I propose that a group of goats be called a lodge. A lodge of billy goats. Because - us. Except we aren't "for" dinner. We are "at" dinner.

At first, I thought the reference to KY was a joke about Kentucky Masons being a bunch of goat lovers.
And as a Kentucky Mason, I felt I should stand up to this kind of stereotype. But then I realized that if I stood up, the goat would probably run away.
Context, Brother.... Context....

My assumption is that the crazy anti masonic people take the old part of free masonry and without knowing anything about it when they hear ancient and that we have an alter in the lodge room and assume animal sacrifice.

I think if any candidate actually believes there will be a live goat(or any other farm animal for that matter) anywhere in the lodge at any point probably is the result of "not guarding the West"....sound minds only please.

And yet, I would not be surprised in the slightest if it has taken place many times over the years lol. :)
