Any Vietnamese Freemason?

Hello Brother - I note in your profile it says you are a MM - from which GL do you hail ?

I'm from Australia and my family does not come from Vietnam.. so a bit of a bust for your two questions. Sorry... however in a translated news article, I once read Ho Chi Minh as a Freemason. Story went he was inititated in France. I have seen this claimed elsewhere, but never seen a decent source for the claim. Politics firmly aside, I think we can agree he was a key leader in a nation's history, so it's of interest to me. Ever heard that Ho Chi Mihn was a Freemason ?

I'm not Vietnamese, but I spent a year there in 1970-71: An Khe, Phuoc Vinh, Bien Hoa. I'm glad you're safely here, brother.

Hello Brother - Yes I am MM and I was WM in 2019-2020 and 2021 of Joppa #40 of GL Virginia.
Communist Vietnam did not mention HCM as a Freemason... He probably was at one point in France, he came by working in a ship from Vietnam to France then sneaked out to live there illegal. He got in contact with some of Vietnamese famous scholars who came to France as students. History showed that they were Freemasons. He asked them to bring him in but I believed that some had found him not worthy at that point, so they did not vouch for him. HCM later had some of them assassinated for his political gain as communist. Their names are Ta Thu Thau, Pham Ngoc Thach and even with our last emperor as Emperor Duy Tan ... There was not much of history about it since communist wanted to cover up all of his unhuman acts toward his own people. Under communist, Freemason is not permitted.

Hi Brother,
Yes, I am Past Master in Seychelles, which resort under East Africa and answer to the GL in UK.
A few years back I joined the Dutch lodge, which has simpler rituals and I have the same function as the Senior Warden in the English lodge.
Unfortunately I travel a lot to Asia and miss quite a big part.
Of course there was Freemasonry during the French period but at the present time it is not allowed. But as especially Vietnam is modernizing rapidly, who knows that within a few years we can have a Lodge in Hanoi and in Saigon.
I never heard that HCM has been a FM.

Currently, it wouldn’t occur. During the French period, it did.

I escaped from a communist country where they would arrest if you gather more than 4-5 people. They will be framed as to have a plan to overthrow current government i.e. communist

Freemasonry in Vietnam?????
That sounds like a joke.
During the period of French colonized then Yes - Vietnam had Freemason and it had during Vietnam war as well but only in the South Vietnam. As communist took over the North in 1954, Freemason was no longer permitted. They used the Mason lodge was built by French as a post office until it collapsed a few years ago. Stupid communist did not maintain the building structure...
I heard that there was a lodge in the South Vietnam as Saigon Lodge and then later move to Philippine and it is still there.
