Floresville #515 AF & AM and OES # 271 performed funeral rites for Carlton Rice. He had been A member of 515 since 1998 and all but one year sat in one chair or another and when he died was our treasurer. Carlton was also retired Air Force Master Sargent.
Everything started off with his Daughter saying a few words and bringing up 3 of his young grandchildren to sing You are my Sunshine My Only Sunshine. Great job Kids
Order Of The Eastern Star Performed a ceremony at the funeral home and it was a very beautiful and well spoken ceremony. Great job ladies.
The Air Force gave full Honors with bugler, Pallbearers and 21 gun salute. Great job Airmen. Even when Carlton's grandson was trying to read the meaning of each fold of the flag and got chocked up delaying things you were able to make it look as though you needed time to get the flag perfect for the next fold. The Funeral Director at Ft. Sam came forward and assisted Him by taking over the reading.
Floresville #515 Then stood by our Brothers casket as a Brother performed the rite and offered prayers. When we were done his wife asked everyone to join in and sing God Bless America.
This was my first Masonic Funeral and must say that each part of this funeral was just as special as the next. It all told a story of a man that left his mark on everyone there and I am sure a great many more who were not able to attend.
In the end was fitting recognition of 46 years of Masonry and more than 70 years of love of life and family.
Carton Rice enjoy that house not made with hands eternal in the heavens. RIP
