There are over 100 (one hundred) appendant/concordant bodies in the Masonic "family" of organizations. Some are very open and public, like the Shriners (Ancient Arabic Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine). Some are very obscure, like the Royal Order of Quetzlcoatl. Some are "fun" organizations, like the Turtles (YBYSAIA).

Myself, I belong to the Scottish Rite (southern jurisdiction USA), and I am an inactive Shriner. I have belonged to the Turtles, and I took the class to be a DeMolay adult advisor (had to drop out, when I was deployed to Iraq). I once belonged to a Masonic "Square and Compasses Club", an informal organization for masons and others who wish to socialize outside the tyled lodge.

I like to think of Masonry as a "cafeteria" of organizations, where a man can join as few or as many, to suit his needs and his time constraints.

I like your wording! Looking at all my dues cards I need side rails for my plate. I needed something to make me smile today!

What was it that compelled you to join them? Also what about non masonic bodies such as golden dawn etc...

The majority are invitational bodies and you normally do not turn down an invitation to those bodies.

I'm a member of several student organizations and societies. I think individuals benefit when they surround themselves with people from different avenues of life. After graduation, I intend to find a community service-oriented organization to stick with. A lodge shouldn't necessarily become service-oriented (hence my looking for that opportunity in other organizations), but a community should benefit from the presence of good men who have been made better.

Br. Stewart,

So what do you do with your "Free Time"?
Would it have to do with Masonry?

God bless you Brother, may you have many years to spread your knowledge to those who need it.
May you be Blessed with as much time as needed for all that Light in your heart.

Yours in His service.

What free time??

All kidding aside, I have a wonderful wife and two kids that I spend any and all remaining free time with. I am blessed to have everything I have, and lucky that my wife is as involved in Masonry as I am! Soon the girls will be involved in Rainbow's.

I have always been a firm believer in that putting in labor equates an equal return when it comes to our Fraternity. I have to say that so far, it's true!

May all of you be equally blessed! Thank you!
