Stories: Brother recognizes Brother

I am very keen to hear of any of my brothers who have any stories to share about meeting a complete stranger outside a lodge discovering that he was mason too. I have read some really nice testimonies of masons recognizing each other, sometimes in the middle of an emergency situation, and love to hear yours (or even stories you heard of).

I was walking down the street in Stirling Scotland, wearing a cap with a square and compasses on it. A man trotted across the street and came up to me, looking angry, and said "awfully bold to be walking down the street with that on your hat." Then he broke into a grin, gripped me, and asked me where I was from and what Lodge I belonged to.

I normally wear a leather vest with a S & C on the back when I ride my bike. I have been acknowleged on many occassions, some at ralleys, some on the road but always friendly and respectful. I even helped a woman out that was stalled and she was the widow of a mason

I saw a friend from the far past a year or so ago that shook hands with me and greeted me as one would expect of an old friend. After talking for about 15 minutes he looked at me funnily. Then he said, "I should have known you'd become a mason some day." nuff said.

A few years ago my Father and I took a trip to Israel to visit the numerous Holy Sites. At one stop, a man who was a member of our entourage, asked to see my ring and within seconds began to test me. It turns out that he was a Past Master of a Lodge in South Africa. I'll never forget it.
