My tip? The degree of MM is the *beginning* of your masonic journey rather than the end. Never stop striving to understand and apply the tenets to your daily life. Do not grow complacent in bettering yourself brother. Also, congrats!!
Don't be afraid to ask questions. You are going to see and hear a lot of things that will make you wonder. Ask your brethren in lodge and if they can't answer keep searching.
My tip would be to ask the Brothers in your Lodge the same question. They are the men you will be working with.
Attend lodge, especially Degrees, and learn the Work.
My advise is to always stay curious. Read as many books on Freemasonry (and in general) as you can and continue to improve yourself. Too many brothers become Master Masons and then believe they've done all the work they need to do...I'd argue that you've just begun your journey.
Take your time and don't rush through your Masonic career, but don't just stay in craft there are many more orders you can join and lots more to learn !
Best of luck !
I am a new master mason also. I am in the process of learning the long form proficiencies from our states jurisdiction before the revisions came out in 2008.
I also plan on trying to make the DLIs and GLIs to get the rituals down. Find a Past Master who likes to talk about the craft. Attach yourself to him and learn from him.
Dont believe everything you read on the net. IE dont go to duncans to expand your masonic education... lol
Attend lodge and hope there is more than just bills being paid.
Further - When you ask a question the locals can't answer, take that as a challenge not as a hurdle. Every brother has different interests. You're going to encounter brothers fascinated by topics that you have no interest in, and vice versa.
All of the above are great advice. Also I like to encourage Brothers to travel. I believe in visiting as many lodges as you can this is one of the benefits of a MM that I feel alot of us newly raised do not take advantage of. Study and stay active in your mother lodge. And never forget to give a warm welcome to the ones that come in after you. You were in there shoes once before.
Travel Light
I encourage you to purchase a "Masonic passport" to keep a record of the lodges you visit in your Masonic career. I encourage to visit a nearby lodge, and observe a MM degree as a visitor. You may even wish to volunteer for a part in the degree.
