Turning in my petition for the Houston Shriners

Queston about joining the Houston Shriners

I am turning in my petition for the Houston Shriners at the end of the month. How long does it take before you are initiated? Do you have to wait for a big reunion like with the Scottish Rite or is it done right after you are approved? And is the Fez hat included in the initiation fee? Thanks for any help.

If offered a faster initiation I suggest you ask to wait until the next big reunion. The big events are very memorable. I figure I'm probably going to be a Shriner for the rest of my life (if Shrinedom separates from Masonry we'll see) so I'm glad I was in no hurry and waited until a big event. It's the same advice that folks give to candidates in a hurry to move through their degrees. Relax, slow down, make the experience a memorable one. The Oasis and the marching units will be there in a few more months.

Thanks for the reply. Is the fez hat part of the initiation fee? I noticed there is no reference to a hat size on the petition.

My mistake. I just filled out the petition and it does have a place where you put in your hat size. I must have missed it before. I'm turning it in on Monday night at the temple's stated meeting night. I still need two noble's names for it but I was given two brother's names to ask for when I get there. Unfortunately there are no regular attendees at my lodge that are shriners.

Make sure you join when dues are the lowest price like $175.00 which I believe is this month (October) it covers your initiation fee, fez and dues for the year.

What are the yearly dues for the Houston Shriners?

I know the Grotto dues are $40.00 per year with a $175.00 initiation fee (which includes a Fez).
