Disappointed in lodge turnout.

We had a called meeting last night for a EA to turn in his work. We had just enough Masons there to open in a EA lodge. UGH!
Well may be more will show up next time.

I remember a joke about a DDGM visit -

The DDGM visit had low attendance so after the meeting the DDGM asked the WM if the members had been informed of the event. "Well, I tried to keep it quiet but it looks like the word got out anyways".

I know low attendance is disappointing. One thing I've learned as a Mason is that Enthusiasm is contagious, let them see or hear your enthusiasm( maybe call some of the brothers that aren't there, offer a ride or invite). You'd be amazed at how your spark can help light theirs!!!

All year I have been taking something, some bit of Masonic information that I found entertaining or inspirational, and reading it in open Lodge. Anytime I see a Mason outside of Lodge I say, "I hope you can make it to Lodge this month, I am presenting something and I would really be nice to see a friendly face on the sidelines".

What is a good turnout for your Lodge. My mother lodge has 345 members. 86 of those no longer live in the metro area and cannot attend due to the distances involved. 35 or so are in nursing homes or are physically unable to attend. We average about 15-20 at a typical Stated Communication. My Traditional Observance lodge sends out a monthly summons that mandates attendance or you should show cause. There are only 14 members, but they often are all present. It is in our bylaws that attendance is expected.

What is the consequence if members do not show?

I have been a little frustrated with some of our attendances recently, but I believe a lot of it has to do with being the time of year and how much work we have done. We had 22 (I think) today for a MM degree. It was our 24th lodge opening of the year and 23rd degree to be conferred. Attendance June-Aug. is usually off a little bit, and it seems Masons don't travel the way they did 20 years ago.

It takes a certain number of members to open the lodge in any particular degree, at least one of whom must be the master or one of the wardens.

Likewise, for the degree work it takes X number of brethren who know and can perform the Work. At the far end, it takes 22 brothers to put on the Master's degree (2nd section) here, without people having to double up where they can...

In the RA chapter, it takes 9 to open up...
