Blue Envelope Campaign

I just received in the mail the Blue Envelope money raising campaign from Grand Lodge. Besides being disappointed that it wasn't in a blue envelope, I appreciated the fact that no outside vendors were involved this time so all the money would be going to the building fund. But I'm still okay with us not saving that building and downsizing, but I'm young so what do I know about tradition and all that jazz?

I used to get excited when I got an envelop from GL until I realized I'd never receive anything from them that wasn't a solicitation of some sort. Color me young and naive.

Every envelope contains another envelope, haha

I was the same way. It was like the scene in The Jerk when Steve Martin gets the phone book with his name in it, "I'm finally somebody!" Then the letdown.

I not only received a solicitation from the Grand Lodge, but from a Scottish Rite body that I'm not even affiliated with...the same day!

Not saving what building? Downsizing what?

Are they going to tear it down or just close off parts? It is kind of large to be as inactive as it is most of the year. I get info about re-doing the museum (as I recall) but not sure I remember shrinking the building.

When folks write "down sizing" I figure they mean moving out of the big beautiful albatross building to one that is possible to afford and maintain. I tend to favor a small rented office the the GL - One of my jurisdictions has always done that and has never suffered from the cost of an albatross building.

They are continuing to raise money to renovate all parts of it. As far as I know, there are no plans to tear it down or close off portions during the year (they might already do this I have no idea.)

Thanks for that. It's the way I had it. Sometimes I practice forgetting so when the fateful day comes I won't remember.

Now let's see, where was that mouse...

Or set it us as for instance the GL of New York have done. They've got a huge building where half of it is rented out to commercial real estate and the other is for lodge use. The amount of money they take in on the rent more then covers all their expenses for the year!
