I'm excited to take this step but know know really what to expect. Any allowable insight would be great.

The SR isn't in my future, but like any Masonic body, there is nothing you need to know prior to the day. Peeking at your presents only ruins the surprise.

Scottish Rite or any body that presents degrees to groups - Ask to be the examplar in one of the degrees. Being in the audience does work. Being at the altar carries more emotional impact, as you would expect having been through the craft degrees.

And that's what I was thinking. I'm not sure if it's a group or individual session.

I'd rather be involved but will watch if that's what is chosen.

Do they often do them in groups?

Of course it will depend on the size of your Valley and your class. If you're in a large class, getting to be the exemplar candidate for a degree might only happen once or twice. If it's a weekend reunion, and they're only conferring the "obligatory" degrees, you might not get to do it at all.

I enjoyed taking my SR degrees as a class. It works, because of how they are presented. Unlike YR and Blue Lodge Degrees, one is not exactly an "active" participant however the impact is strong. Best part about SR is if you get into it, you can in fact participate in them actively and pass them on to others. It's worth getting involved at some level with one of the four constituent bodies, especially if you have a knack for theatre.

Oh, and the best part about many Valleys, is that they have a Consistory Choir, if you like to sing. They participate in certain degrees.

Did my first day of our reunion yesterday. Amazing experience. I was the examplor for two of the degrees. Am looking forward to the 32nd degree next month.
