Templar History

After the execution of Grand Master Jacques de Molay etc., what are rival claims as to the result of the Templar Order? There is the Masonic theory and I am not discounting that in this thread, simply testing the waters to see what other theories are out there other than the Masonic connection and the "they are just extinct" theory.

Templar history interests me.

Well, there is no hard evidence to support any claim other than they were shut down, with all remaining lands and funds being passed on to the Hospitallers. Everything else is romantic speculation.

Wasn't there a book written a while ago about the Masonic-Templar connection that wasn't just some conspiracy nut?

There've been several books, some extremely well written, but they've all been speculation.
