Catechism Question

On Monday May 4th I'll be doing my FC Catechism and prayerfully being passed. Here is my question I have the option to question myself. What are everyone's thoughts on questioning ones self or not?

If you know it, do it. If you aren't comfortable with it, then don't.

It's impressive if a candidate can question himself and do it well...but that's really all there is to it.

I know it very well. For the last few weeks my practice was teaching those that just started FC. I was just wondering what thoughts other brothers had on the subject

I did my Masters turn in like that. If you can do it, more power to you. It confirms that you took the work seriously and really know it. Of course the Fellowcraft turn in is not nearly as hard as any of the others.

I knew the material well enough to do the questions and answers but I was more comfortable having my mentor ask the questions. It is simply your choice in what you want to do.

The only part that feels funny is the grip part. I'm so excited I can't wait....lol

If you know your stuff, go out there and do it. After all, if you should try for certification, you will need to know both questions and answers anyway. Have your mentor/lecturer go out with you, and when you get to the part for modes of recognition, he can do that with you. For certification, I had to recite all the spoken parts; while the examiner served as the second party to exchange the tokens. And if you get stuck and need a word to get going again, he can prompt you.

It definitely impresses the other brethren if you can do both Q&As... and they'll definitely remember you ;-)

I'm ready sucks he won't be there he just got married. Can't wait for tonight either way

It's not like you can do that part on your own. Walk to any side liner and they'll partner with you for that part.

Knowing both the questions and answers is excellent. Great job.

Thanks it made it easier to learn that way. The Sr Deacon will be up there with me. I can't wait it's like time is moving slow lol

I know that by now you've already passed your proficiency (congratulations) and been raised (even more congratulations) but, for any other brothers out there who might be seeking light with this same question...

Personally, I found it easier to question myself. I found that I couldn't really study on my own without the questions, so I was forced to question myself. While it wasn't required, by the time came to do my proficiency, I was so used to asking myself the question and giving the answer, that when being questioned by someone else, I got lost. It would be like trying to pick up in the middle of a lecture. Unfortunately, as it was a group proficiency, I was not permitted to question myself and found myself basically saying it all silently to myself until I got to the answer portion.

Thanks. Alot of the brothers said that when the first joined it used to be taught that way.
