Just a quick ques y ion. I was raised in April and I'm working on my mm catechism. I keep hearing friends talk of Cypher books their family members had. My question is, are Cypher books only received after an additional degree from like York or scottish rite or is it a PHA thing?

Some jurisdictions provide ciphers during the blue lodge degrees. Other jurisdictions only provide ciphers after the blue lodge degrees are completed. Some jurisdictions don't do ciphers at all. Either your mentor or the secretary of your lodge can explain your jurisdiction's rules

I am in Texas and I believe you have to get your own. The Grand Lodge of Texas has talked about doing their own. Not sure what the status of that is.

Our book in FL cant have a cypher. Cause the same letter means something different in each sentence.

The only thing that sounds like what your talking about is all the coded books, but a set totally written out.
Those "in FL" are under strict lock and key in 1 lodge safe per district. It takes 3 people to open it and they open it only at the "open books" meetings that only master masons are allowed to attend to read and brush up on their work.

If anyone holds one without knowledge if the grand lodge, well it wont happen period.

Different jurisdiction, different answer. You need to find out the local answer. The policy on written ritual varies wildly jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Just ask someone from your lodge. As Brother Doug said, it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
