My nephew who isn't a mason yet called me and said he had something for me. He found it in a local resale shop. It's kind of generic because it doesn't say anything about where or what or who it is for except masonry in general. It's cool none the less. 14578024790451063467280.jpg 14578025272651658456386.jpg

It appears to be a sample coin. Wonder how it came to be @ a resale shop. The side with the working tools is identical to one side of a coin my Lodge bought from a now-unknown vendor 31 years ago to commemorate our 100th anniversary.

The local lodge was chartered in 1847. I'm going to show it to some of the brothers who would have been around for the 150th and see if they know. It's a small retail shop in a small community most likely didn't come from far away. Possibly from an estate near by.

I brought the coin to lodge and asked our secretary if the coin looked familiar. Yep its from our 150th. He then proceeded to open up the safe and there are 2 whole rolls of them in there. Mystery solved.

I'm guessing one of the Masonic suppliers made a generic sesquicentennial (proud of myself for remembering the term) coin for Lodges who could not afford the cost of a custom one. Not a bad idea for smaller Lodges.
