What makes a "Scottish Rite Cathedral " a Scottish Rite Cathedral ? Is it who meets there or something to do with the stature of the building, or something else ?

We're cooler than Blue Lodge. They have Temples. We have Cathedrals. ;^)

Since the degrees span the era of history from KST to near the present you'd have to select specific degrees to favor the word.

I've heard it said that here, we only have one Scottish Rite "Cathedral". Its not owned by the SR and the groups meeting there are the same as many others in different buildings, so I was just wondering... Would any building the specific degree meets in be refereed to as the "Cathedral"... if so, what I've heard is bunk..we would therefore have more than one "Cathedral" unless it is where the Supreme Council meets, that would make sense..

Well In Oregon our AASR building was called a Temple amd thr building was a non descript warehouse type building. Here in NM we have a huge beautiful building thats referred to as both a temple and a cathedral.....

Indianapolis refers to their incredibly beautiful and impressive building as the Scottish Rite Cathedral.

In church lingo "cathedral" has nothing to do with size, it merely designates the seat of the diocese, the church where the bishop presides. It would seem to me that in SR it would be the Valley where the SGIG presides. But that's just me being logical...

Indeed ( on the church thing). I was standing between two 32nds on Monday- i should have asked them. I have to telephone one today and ask then...i'm suspecting it's just a designation, or the peak body meets there, or a certain number of RC do... or something like that.... I doubt it has anything to do with stature of the building- unless the title is just conferred *because* of the size/beauty of the building.... but it's unlikely speculation is required... there will be a reason.

Thanks for you help brothers :)
