I have no desire:(

So I come from a pretty long line of Master Masons, Scottish Rite 32 degree Masons, and Shriners. The thing is I'm in love with the Blue Lodge. I mean, it just does "it" for me. I'm very active and go to our education classes every week, attend every stated meeting, and every extra meeting for degrees. I was raised in November and have just been appointed as Senior Master of Ceremonies. Exciting!! Plus, I've been given the honor of doing some extra stuff during degrees. Anyway, I love doing memorization and doing things that will make me a better Mason.

The thing is a few family members are on me to join an appendant body like Scottish Rite or The Shriners. Truth is, I'm just not THAT into it right now. My heart is with Blue Lodge. My father would love for me to become a Shriner. He's getting older and I feel I ought to do it so that we can share in that together. But I don't think I'd be able to devote myself to it entirely. The only thing that makes me want to join is so that we can wear fezzes together and carry on the tradition (My grandfather was a Shriner for 75 years). I also feel bad about not wanting to seek more light in Masonry. I mean, Scottish Rite sounds cool, but, like I said, I'm not ready for it. In fact, York Rite seems to be more in my wheelhouse than Scottish.

Ahhh, sorry about rant.

I and several others was raised 2 years ago, we'll say 4. They rushed to get raised and then flew threw everything else to become shriners. In the year and a half I've gone to my lodge, and surrounding area lodges ,you don't see them anymore. And when you do see them, they act like they dont know you. Most use the blue lodge as a stepping stone to become shriners. I myself enjoy the blue lodge and what little activities we have and don't ever plan to leave the blue lodge.

The Symbolic Lodge has more than enough light and mystery to honestly handle a lifetime of research. There is no shame in not going to any other body. When I moved to Maryland from Alabama I maintained my York Rite membership in Alabama. I am doing this to force myself to focus on Symbolic Lodge right now.

If you master the lessons in the first degree you'll be a better Mason than one who only attended a reunion or festival and has a fancy title. The joke I've heard goes like this: I took 40 years between EA and FC. Took me that long to subdue by passions.

I've been a MM for 13 years, Master three times in Two lodges... for me, I am only now seriously thinking about perhaps moving onto another Body (besides Shrine, but I'm not currently financial)...It's take me that long to get a good handle on the first three degrees and I still have several charges to learn...

My opinion is that you shouldn't do ot just to do it. Many of my Brothers are trying to get me to join York Rite. I want to, but I know that I have a lot on my plate, with business and my new duties as Junior Warden. I know that I wouldn't be able to be as active as I want to be so I dont want to waste my time, and my Brothers time by putting too much on my plate. No need to rush. Everything will happen in due time Brother.

You will know when / if you are ready to join an appendant body. If you are happy exclusively in the Blue Lodge, fine. An invitation to join one is fine but no one should pressure you into joining. It sounds as if you are very happy where you are.
