Thinking of demiting from the Commandery

Heck, I'd just be happy if members around here would just agree to wear ANY suit or show up to lodge properly attired instead like they are going out to do yard work.

People always quote that it's the internal and not the external...

But that isn't an excuse to come to lodge looking like a slob. Jesus didn't care about the external either but we still (should) dress respectfully for church. Also, despite what many people seem to think, suits are not expensive.

Honestly, if someone doesn't understand that looking like a slob when you go certain places isn't acceptable, that speaks volumes to their internal.

I'm not casting stones because my regular attire is a t-shirt and shorts/jeans when I'm not at work, lodge, church, funeral home, etc. When I am at those places, I dress appropriately.

U can get a full suit at target for just over 100$(coat, slacks, shirt, shoes and tie)

Yes! In my mother lodge a handful of us started wearing suits. We didn't care what color, style, or anything else just don't look like we are doing something mundane. Masonry is not mundane it is spectacular.

Joe, yeah, I've heard that about the Navy. :)

Here's a link to a very long piece I wrote a while back about alternative ideas to change the direction of a Templar Commandery. Most of it doesn't require any rule changes, just attitude and operational philosophy.

Agreed. Moreover, the external should reflect the internal.

Exactly. I once visited a lodge during officer installation. The guy being installed as Junior Warden was wearing a pair of jean shorts and a sweat shirt with the sleeves cut off. I couldn't believe it!

This should be published in the magazine in every edition for two years at least!

I enjoy the Commandery over any other body. May be the old Drill Instructor in me. I'm lucky that we have all York Rite Bodies meet in my blue lodge. The Order of the Temple had the most impact on me, I had mine during our annual inspection. I'm Commander this year and my son is scheduled to have his Order of the Temple during our inspection.

Companion Joe, I hope to meet you at Grand Lodge this year.

And I'm the opposite. After 22 years Army/Army Reserve (retired as a Master Sergeant,) I have no desire to dress up like a 19th century Naval officer and do drill & ceremonies. I don't see what it has to do with Masonry.

Millennial: 3%
Gen. X: 8%
Boomers: 21%
Silent: 47%

This is the veteran population in each generation according to Pew Research. Drilling may not be something that's important to the current generation.

Except that I still dress like a 20th C Naval officer on occasion.

Lol. We did our long form opening in the Commandery last night for our annual inspection. This was the first inspection that I have participated in as I have just recently gotten my uniform. We did pretty well if I say so myself, lol.
