Masonic tchotchkes

We have a tradition where the WM of every Lodge picks some kind of "gift", typically with his name, year in the East and Lodge name and number on it to hand out to various brothers for various occasions.

This gift is given out to Brothers on their Masonic Birthday (The anniversary of their EA degree), to the WM, Officers and Brothers traveling with them for District visitations and to visiting Brothers.

This is only my 2nd year traveling around the district and I already have enough coffee mugs and key chains with S&C and the above information that I need never lack for a vessel to drink coffee from or a place to keep my keys!

I was curious if this was a tradition elsewhere. I would also love to know if you have run into this what less common things have you run into? I am looking ahead to 2020, and will have to order whatever my "gift" will be in Mid 2019 to be ready for January 2020. I don't want to do the "same old" pen, coffee cup, key chain thing, but also don't want to break the bank!

I wonder if you could get some personalized lapels relatively cheap online. Maybe GLofPA lapel perhaps. Maybe if there is an affordable Masonic book that speaks volumes to you that you thoroughly enjoy. You could sign and date it the inside of it. You can also get swanky certificates done online that look nice. Not sure what they cost though.

Check out Klitzner. They have all kinds of neat stuff. I lived in PA for about a year, and I visited many lodge. I got plates, can caddies, etc. I think it is a terrific custom, and I have suggested to my home lodge (KY) that they consider getting ashtrays, etc. for the brothers.

I have lapel pins by the dozen. All sorts of lodges I've visited, charities I've donated to, projects I've volunteered for, GMs and Potentates I've had.

My mother lodge, St. Matthews 906, has a somewhat similar tradition. At his last meeting as Master the Master of the lodge makes a small gift as a token of his appreciation to each of the officers that served with him.

Definately a tradition here. I have a collection of
Wine & Shot glasses (etched with details).
Key chains
Bottle openers
Pens
Lapel pins
Coasters (nice - set of three which is better than one).
Mini keychain flash light
Coffee mugs

Do they pay for this stuff themselves, or does the lodge foot the bill? I very rarely see anything like that around here. The Grand Master gives out lapel pins (and gifts to his officers at installation) but that's about it.

In the case that I stated the Master pays for these gifts.

It varies by lodge here.

As to lapel pins, I will stay away from that. The rules for Masonic Dress in PA allow for only a single lapel pin, related to the body that is working, be worn in Lodge. It is the least enforced rule in existence, but I don't want to encourage that.

Also varies by lodge here - but the vast majority, the WM is paying for these gifts..

You could do "stocking stuffers" where you just pick small ticket items and give the officers several small things instead of one.
