Widows Sons question

So, as I’ve posted on another part of this forum, I’m a member of a GLoTX lodge, but I now live in Nebraska and am currently in the process of beginning to dual affiliate with a Lodge here, while maintaining my membership at my mother Lodge (1273).

I’ve come across some posts here while just reading about animosity between the GLoTX and the Widows Sons. Now, I am not a motorcycle man, so I have no interest in joining their organization. However, the Lodge that I’m currently interested in affiliating with has many Widows Sons. In fact, I was invited to attend the Lodge by a Brother that I work with that is PM of the Lodge and also a VP of the Widows Sons.

My question is this: are the edicts still in effect? Would they prohibit me from affiliating with this Lodge?

There isn't any "animosity" between GLoTX & WS. The fact is that GLoTX, like most other GLs, reserves the right to determine what other Masonically affiliated groups it will recognize & allow its members to join. As the GLoTX does not recognize WS or allow its members to belong, you can sit in and affiliate with Lodges with WS members with no problem- you just can't join WS.

Thank you for your information! Perhaps animosity was the wrong/too strong of a word, beyond the references I found here while reading, when I researched it online in other sources, there seemed to be some discontent in at least one side of the argument. Again, thank you!

I am unclear as to why the GLoTX will not recognize WS as a Masonic associated group. Can some one please explain the situation to me? From what I have read it is something to do with the patch.

If I had to guess, and I'm only speculating, it's probably the stigma that is attached to MCs and RCs. I know there is a difference and I know there are good, honest MCs and RCs but as we all know there are some questionable ones as well that have a history of criminal or violent activity. Maybe the GL does not want to be associated with that and allow biker meetings to go on at lodges. It conjures up negative feelings to the general public when they see a dozen or so loud motorcycles breezing thru town. Also, if there were ever any tiffs or run-ins with the "bad" MCs or RCs, the GL probably wouldn't want anything to do with that.

Part of the problem is with the public's perception of motorcycle groups & part of it was the patch, as illustrated:

But why should they? What is in it for the GL? There is absolutely nothing Masonic in the group. They hold no relevant ritual, history, lineage, teachings, or anything else that could be considered Masonic, besides the fact that you have to be a Mason to join.

I can't understand why this in any way is considered a Masonic group. Motorcycles and riding can be all well and fine, but what does it have to do with Masonry? And similarly, why would a group of Mason's that ride together feel like they need to get GL approval to do so?
