It is sad to post this, but, I feel that I must.

Some time during the weekend of August 4, vandals invaded South Houston Lodge 1295, and removed all of the copper coils from our air conditioning units. Unfortunately, our insurance will not cover the replacement costs due to the fact that we did not have an alarm/security system on the lodge. It is going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000.00 to $40,000.00 to replace these units.

Texas Masonic Code forbids lodges to solicit other lodges for assistance.

As a Life member of South Houston, I am making a plea to all of y'all to consider helping South Houston to overcome this setback. It is very active and meets several times a week. With the recent loss of air conditioning, we have had to cancel our Family NIte and some other meetings.

Worshipful Master, Randy Womack, and Secretary, Ken Robbins can be reached in a couple of ways:

Phone: 713-944-1295

Email: southhouston1295@yahoo.com

Sincerely and Fraternally.

Seems odd that it wouldn't be covered regardless of an alarm system since most normally alarms protect what is inside and not the outside fixtures. Was it the condenser units outside?

Yes, it was the condenser units outside. I am just going by what our Secretary told me in the email as far as the insurance is concerned. When we installed them, they were inside of a chain link fence. But that was back in the mid 80's.

BTW, How are things in Duncan, America? I lived in Lawton for three years after leaving Houston in 1991.

Well, it probably hasn't changed all that much since you left here. It has it pros and cons. Except for the years I was in the Navy I have lived here. I thought when I joined the military I would never come back here, but alas I am back. It is a good place to be though. I don't have to deal with the higher crime rates that I did living in Chicago, Virginia, and Florida. Plus it is a lot cheaper here than elsewhere in the country. Were you in the Army?

No. I ran the Coca-Cola plant. I had all of the southern part of Oklahoma down to Ringling and over to Altus. As far north as Anadarko. I liked Duncan a lot. Great people and they drank a lot of Coke and Dr Pepper!

I see. When people say they lived in Lawton I usually assume it was due to the Army. I guess one thing hasn't changed since those are still the beverage of choice for many people around here. It isn't so bad here because I know for a fact there are a lot of worse places to be.

Your lodge should invest about 2,500 in an attorney who will have your insurance company pay the rest. I have some good contacts in that regard if you want a "Masonic" lawyer to handle it.

You guys REALLY need to talk to your insurance agent about this. I've never heard of such a codicil in an insurance policy - if they won't cover it, make sure your next policy will.

Thanks for the advice. I'll pass it along to the Master and Secretary. I have to agree with yáll. Seems like a lot of (you know what) to me too. I did get an email from our Sect. and he said that we were going to install 4 units this past weekend which will help making the dining hall and downstairs somewhat tolerable. They will attempt to start meeting again.

Thanks to everyone for your support and help. I know that my brothers in South Houston appreciate it as well.

FCP has it right. If you haven't taken his offer, than you should now.
