When did your clock start?

I recently had a friend ask me how long i had been a mason. It really kind of stumped me, and did not know which date to give them. When did your masonic clock start? Was it when you were initiated? Or was it when you werw raised to the sublime degree of a master mason?

Brother Bennylee,
I personally use the date I was raised to be my masonic birthday. Traditionally our lodge announces masonic birthdays
of members and that is standardized as their date raised to MM. Personally, its the date when I could then sit in any lodge
with my brothers and had received all the light that my lodge could bestow, so it was important to me.

I think he means what Daniel Mosmeyer said and I would also agree with. Think back to your EA catechism. That is where take my answer from as well.

That's what I originally thought but with the way it is worded it made me wonder. I used to think that at the point of being an EA was when I could go back to but I see it as as an EA or FC you don't (at least in Oklahoma) have a dues card and I think back to some of the stuff you are told in the MM degree.

I gotcha. In Texas, EA and FC hold dues cards and are called Brother. To each their own interpretation though.

If a brother stayed an EA for 24 years and became a MM a year later, when would he be due a 25 year pin? Or, If a man is initiated on January 1, 2000 and raised on June 1, 2000, When is he eligible for a 25 year pin. would it be Jan 1, 2025 or June 1, 2025?

Thats a good point RedTemplar, what if he was entered but NEVER passed or raised. After time would he be due a 25 year pin while still an EA?

In Ky, EAs and FCs pay the same dues as MMs. Only MMs receive dues cards. Years of service begins with the date of initiation. EAs and FCs are not entitled to wear pins. So, an EA or FC for 25 years and is later raised, he would be eligible to wear a 25 year pin.

Canada or at least Ontario starts at EA. we do our work in the first so an EA may sit in lodge. I was initiated in Nov. 2011, so I'm just over a year.

Im glad to hear all of the mixed opinions from brothers from different parts. At least I know that the question was a legit question for a new comer. I was wondering after I started the post.
