What is the history of the York Rite what are its origins and when did it begin? What are the names of the degrees? And what does the system of degrees teach?

This might sound stupid but iwas wondering If a mason wanted to be a Knights Templar would he have to be a member of other two rites within York Rite or can one just pay dues to Comanderie?

The degrees are progressive, so I know you have to go through them at least. Whether you could chose afterwards to not maintain membership of the Chapter and Council, but only the Commandry I don't technically know. I wouldln't think so, but it may be a loophole in some jurisdictions.

In most cases you need to maintain your standing in the blue lodge, chapter, and council in order to be current in the Commandery.

Some areas still allow you to by-pass the Council Degrees and go from Chapter to Commandery.
