Its indeed sad that something like this has to happen within a great faternity like the Masons. However, when it comes to money, I have learned to completely trust no one. Every lodge and business needs to have a system of checks and balances to prevent this very thing from happening. Become...
I have visited many lodges here in Texas but haven't always been received as well as I could have been. Usually, they just check my dues card and drivers license, say welcome to the lodge and then I am on my own. When lodge is over, they say, come again. It would be nice for an officer of the...
Thanks for the reply. In my grand lodge, brothers are required to show proficiency in confering the first section in all three degrees before they can become master of a lodge. perhaps, not a bad idea?
Thanks for your comment my brother. However, I did not make any refference to the brother age as I have no idea how old he is. He indicated in his initial statement that he had done pretty well considering? I support any brother, regarless of age or time in masonry that wants to confer a...
I have replied to the young brother and intended no offense to him. I am currious however about your statement. I am new to masonry here in Texas. You say that you know very few WM's who can even confer degrees? Don't brothers here in Texas have to show proficiency in confering all three...
I had no intention of offending you or any other brother. I was merely replying to your own statements, I went blank during the obligation, lots of laughs and thought I did pretty well considering. There was nothing in your message indicating that you confered the degree well. I am glad you...
I think that it is great that our young brother has the desire to confer degrees so soon after being raised himself, however, I believe that the actual confering of degrees should be left to the WM or some other experienced brother. Our brothers are only initiated, passed and raised once and...
Yes its important that the brother visiting should have a valid dues card and identity card. The book of lodges should also be consulted to insure that his lodge is recognized. The visiting brother should also be given the opportunity to check the book to insure that the lodge he is visiting...
I would like to see the Grand Lodge require all masons to wait one year after being raised before they could petition other masonic bodies. Let them work in Blue lodge for a year and gain knowledge. After one year they will be better qualified to decide in what direction they want to move. I...
It is all about lodge etiquette and respect. If it is being done in lodge, it is the responsibility of the master to correct it by holding a lodge of instruction in lodge ettiquette.
Are they all Past Masters? I have only met one thus far and he unfortunately was weak in lodge etiquette. I would think that anyone filling this position would have to be knowledeable in order to inspect a lodge and the officers.
I like candles as it is a nice touch to opening and closing the lodge. In some lodges, the candles ar extinguished by the wardens and WM as part of the ritual in closing the lodge.
At the very least, you should be asked for your dues card and the members of the examining committee should show theirs. You should then be offered the opportunity to look in the book of lodges and see that he lodge you are visiting is recognized by the Grand Lodge.
was raised in a Lodge in Germany and for all stated meeting, dress was coat and tie. If it was warm, brothers were allowed to remove their coats. For degree work, we all wore a tux. Many brothers came directly from work to lodge, but changed clothes at the lodge. Attending lodge here in the...
I am not sure that you are obligated as the guidelines for investigating should be issued by the Master of the lodge to the injvestigating committee. The more information that you can provide a candidate the more likely you and the candidate will beable to decide the proper course of action.
