Thanks. I'm trying to find a way to be able to exchange thoughts about both details and context, so I cut it all up. Currently it's mostly some available information with a few thoughts of my own. Gathering available information did result in a much narrower range of probable dating than in any...
I have made a website about the Kirkwall Scroll, that enigmatic artifact that is kept on the mainland of the Scottish Orkney islands. The aim is to gather information, being able to discuss details (I've cut out eight panels and from each panel the separate symbols). The idea is that this...
I could have 'forgotten' to mention that. Besides, I don't need specifics of the rituals (I have the ritual book anyway, bought them at the Grand Lodge of Scotland), just the history and the text of that other ritual (Emulation) I have too, so I can't be told any detail that I don't already have...
I just noticed that on another place he is more specific:
The ritual for the lodges working in the English language was not created by translating the—atheistic—ritual of George Martin. Instead, probably the Theosophist Annie Besant herself, possibly with the help of some members of the lodge...
I'm trying to trace the origins (inspiration) of the ritual that my (irregular) lodge works with. No one less than Jan Snoek has done so before and he says that the oldest version of the ritual is based on "a Scottish ritual". Unfortunately he doesn't specify.
I have a 2010 print of the rituals...
Nah, that's just Le Droit Humain. Globally they may be the biggest mixed gender organisation, but this is not the case in every country and there are quite a few other organisations that I know. As far as I know, LDH is the only with a 'continuous system'. Actually this isn't entirely true...
Ok thanks. And how many mixed gender orders are there in Italy? Did I catch them all? As I don't speak Italian, it's not easy to check all the websites to see if they mention women :-) I had to look for an indication on the SOMI site too using Google translator.
Yep, mixed gender alright. Victoria, if you would be so kind to let us know which Grand Lodges in Italy allow women to join (and any other information is welcome) I will further update the Italy page that I linked to above.
Well, there are some mixed gender and female only organisations in Italy, but I'm starting to think this list is incomplete as SOMI seems to fall under that 'category' too.
Like I said. there are no "studylodges" in the Netherlands. There is a "Stichting Ritus en Tempelbouw" ('rite and temple construction foundation' would be the literal translation (quick Google translation from their website:
The Foundation Rite Temple and Construction, founded on June 2, 1946...
In the Netherlands, you cannot be member of two lodges, so there is a study group rather than a study lodge which is called (aha!) Quator Coronati Nederland. This group joins Freemasons of different breeds (regular and irregular) and organises congresses, study days, publish a magazine, etc...
Indeed I noticed, but I wanted to be sure that the symbol is not specific for that degree, as it saying: he I'm a 33'er (which I'm not).
In other ways the symbol has meanings to me, that's why I started scetching with it.
Thank you for the info.
Roy
I just heard the funniest story of a member of our lodge. He has a S&C sticker on the back of his car. One time he was driving on the highway with his daughter next to him. At some point a big, fat BMW drove up next to him and gave him the EA sign. Can you imagine the reaction of the daughter?
It's not that. As 'Van Goede Naam' can probably confirm, the Grand Orient has 60+ member lodges and they also take a year per grade. The year per grade is more the norm over here. Perhaps 'Van Goede Naam' knows if the same goes for neighbouring countries like Belgium or Germany (or France)? I...
