About to be installed as JR Steward

Well officers elections are done and new officers will be installed later in the month. I have been selected to serve as Jr. Steward for my lodge. I see a great deal of work in my future. I feel honored that my brothers thought enough of me to ask this of me. I look forward to serving my brothers and assisting the Jr. Warden and Sr. Steward in the up coming year!

Congratulations on your first step through the line. It's going to be a long and sometimes tiresome journey, but you'll learn a lot, and most importantly, you'll be supporting your lodge. With that service comes both pride and humility. Take both to heart.

Congratulations Brother. I did not have the good fortune to sit in this chair as at the time that I joined membership in my mother lodge was down and I started in the SD position. Enjoy your journey.

Enjoy the journey. I wish I had had the opportunity to start off as a Steward, Pursuivant, or JMC rather than fill a vacancy at JD 3 months after being raised and then SD a few months after that!

I do have a question that is jurisdictional. I have read several posts of Brothers stating they were about to "Be Installed" into various appointed positions, Steward, JD, SD...etc. Do your jurisdictions have a installation ritual for these positions? Here in PA, Obligations are Sworn and Installations are done for Secretary, Treasurer, Senior Warden, junior Warden and Worshipful Master. All other positions simply take their assigned place at the next stated meeting per the Will and Pleasure of the Worshipful Master, without any type of formal installation. I would be interested to learn how it is done in other jurisdictions!

Keith, I maybe calling it the wrong thing and you maybe very right! This will be the first installation I will have been apart of. This is the first election I have taken part of since being Raised. I will update and let you know what happens. It maybe a case of my being so new to this I called it the wrong thing!!

Well you also may be correct. Here in PA we do everything differently than everywhere else. It wasn't just you who mentioned being installed, I have seen it quite a bit so I am always curious in the differences.

Edit- I just noticed - Your "Masonic Birthday" is the same as my actual Birthday! We are "birthday brothers!"

Elected officers are installed and then the ceremony continues with the installation of appointed offices.

We can have an open installation if it is motioned and seconded in lodge and it appears in the minutes.

All Masonic signs are suspended.

Otherwise, we can do a closed installation.

In all 3 of my jurisdictions every officer has some amount of ceremony at the installation. Their duties are recited. They are invested with their jewel and and other tools they carry. They are escorted to their chair or at least pointed to it.

For the officers that recite their duties at opening and closing, the installation ceremony includes at least that wording. For other officers it might be the only place in the ritual where their duties are described.

Pursuivant - Let's a position I have only seen at the Grand Lodge level in my jurisdictions, not at the blue lodge.

I know positions vary by jurisdiction as I am currently installed as Master of Ceremonies in my Texas lodge and that position only exists in one of my jurisdictions. The ritual for that position is spoken by a different officer in each of my jurisdictions. I originally learned it as Senior Steward in California, then as Junior Deacon in Illinois, now as Master of Ceremonies in Texas. All with small variations.

Exactly the same in all three of the lodges that I belong to and all other lodges that I have visited during their installations.

I am JS in my lodge and have been for several years. The first year I was formally installed. After that simply appointed by the WM. Duties are few except during degree work.
