Civil War Themed Stated Meeting

We had a great evening last night at the February Stated Meeting of Shiloh-MacCalla Lodge No. 558 F&AM of PA. We were granted dispensation for all of the Officers to dress in Civil War Garb with the Program centered around Freemasonry during the Conflict both within and without Pennsylvania. We had a PM portray General Winfield Scott Hancock, who was born in the area of our Lodge and was made a Mason at another Lodge within our Masonic District. We heard the story of the life of Gen. Hancock, his Masonic journey and the story behind the "Friend to Friend" Monument at the Gettysburg Battlefield. Our Senior Deacon gave our monthly "Famous Mason" report, this month highlighting the circumstances that brought together Bro. Maj. Robert Anderson and Bro. General P.G.T. Beauregard on opposing sides of the first shots of the conflict. I gave a presentation on the burning of Chambersburg, PA by Confederate forces, which left only the 1/2 block of the Borough standing - the 1/2 block surrounding the Masonic Temple which was put under guard against harm by a Brother who was a Senior Confederate Officer, who remains unidentified.

It was a fun evening!
