Don't feel like the Lone Ranger cause I have never heard of walking the Tyler sword. Not sure about masonic birth certificate either unless it is your master mason certificate.

Walking the Tyler Sworf is used to gain entry to a Lodge, and You are correct Bro MRichard. Ask some of them Older Brothers about Walking the Tyler Sword I'm pretty sure they will explain...

I'm an older brother. I've never heard of this. I've attended in a whole bunch of jurisdictions. I've not seen it in PHA COL.

That applies to visiting Brethren belonging to GLoTX Lodges (and PHA Texas Brethren who have jumped through the hoops of petitioning for visitation) and is @ the WM's option. All others are to be examined.

Not sure what this means. Other than the exceptions I stated in an earlier post, under GLoTX visiting Brethren are to stand an examination to gain entry.

I've not heard of this phrase but googled it

    "Frostman07,
"Walking the Tyler's Sword", as I was instructed, was one of the tactics that was developed by PHA Masons to detect the growing numbers of bogus men calling themselves Masons, trying to enter our lodges. The jist of it is an oath requested by the tyler or an examining committee to a stranger who desired entrance into a lodge. Normally it was given in the anteroom or at the altar (before the lodge is opened). The catch is the method of giving the oath, the floorwork. Which originally was simple but evolved into sometimes very elaborate floorwork. It didn't take long before these bogus groups learned and began using it. PHA lodges started varying the methods of "Walking.....", that soon there were so many variations that essentially it became useless. But there are still some lodges, as you found out, that use their form of it. Now many, if not all, jurisdictions use some type of Tyler's Oath which is similiar to "Walking...", in language but have eliminated the floorwork."

It's from here and there is more content on that page http://forum.mastermason.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1660

Goes to show, doesnt matter how experienced your are; there's always something you've never heard of :)

    - Walking the Tyler’s Sword -

The prelude to the Tyler’s Oath (commonly known as "walking" said sword”). The brother will retire four paces from the point of the sword. He will advance by

three regular steps, giving the step, due guard and sign of the degrees in their natural sequence (EA, FC, MM). Then advance another step with the left foot, pick up the sword with the left hand, the right hand along shaft support in a said word and place near the heart and repeat the following:

I (state your name) do hereby and hereon solemnly and sincerely swear, that I have been regularly initiated, passed, and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason, in a regularly constituted lodge of such; that I am not now under suspension or expulsion, and know of no just reason why I should not hold Masonic intercourse with my brethren. SO HELP ME GOD.

    google it.....

I understand you can supposedly find this information online, but why post it. Just like any and everything is online these days, why make it easy for cowans. Posting this is just as bad as posting our ritual online, regardless if you copy and paste it from Google or write it out of your own monitor.

If a brother has never heard of it then it would behoove that brother to visit a lodge that still does this ceremony.

Not sure but I had already posted a link which described it. So if you did, others had before you. I don't think it is really in practice anymore anyway. I would edit out the Tyler's Oath though even though it too is on the internet. This is that gray area.
