Rough and Perfect A question

Brothers,

I was thumbing through a very interesting book which briefly mentioned Alchemy. It immediately made me think of the rough and perfect A. Do you think they relate in some way....I got the impression they did, and if so would looking for reputable material on the subject be hard?

You could certainly draw parallels between alchemical transmutation of metals and the transition between ashlars, though i haven't seen anything written before. I actually have a small book on masonic alchemy and symbolism, but have yet to read it.
