Moore Tornado Recovery

These last few days I have been up in Moore to help with the recovery efforts in the wake of the tornadoes that have plagued our region as of late. I went as a volunteer with a group called Team Rubicon. We are made up of military veterans and medical professionals and respond around the world as disaster response. I met a lot of great people and saw the devastation first hand. While I was up there I ran into a few Masons from Minnesota that had made the trek down to Oklahoma to help out. It was nice seeing the charity work that these guys were doing and made me happy to see fellow Masons lending a hand to total strangers. This is one of the greatest things about Masonry.

Along the way I met several homeowners that lost everything. I heard stories of near miraculous survival and one of ultimate heartache. We demoed 8 houses over the weekend and cleared the debris for them. One in particular was a mother of 3 who lost one of her children in the Plaza Elementary school. I came to realize that far too often we take what we have for granted and fail to appreciate our life and what we have. We could be in this same situation someday and see our whole world erased in a span of 2 minutes.

My Illinois lodge sponsored a drive. They brought the donations in person and stayed the weekend on the clean up effort. Masonry in action!
