Anyone here in Scottish Rite in Austin? Would you talk about your experience? Any advice? Any idea when the next reunion is? I'm looking into SR and wanted to know what happens after the petition. The website doesn't say much

I am Bro. Jerry Johnston and I am a SR mason. I am apart of the Houston Valley. This is what I found on the Austin SR website:

Join the Austin Scottish Rite.

1. Download the petition.

2. Fill out the petition completely.

3. You must have two Scottish Rite Members sign your petition.

Reunion fee: $500

Endowment: $2500 (payment plans available)

5. Submit your petition and check, for the total amount, by mail or in person:

Your welcome. Give them a call and find out when the next reunion is. I actually went to Galveston SR for the reunion because it would have taken until this July to get all of the principal degrees. I would apply and submit an application with payment. Then call all of the different SR valleys to see when the next reunion is.

The Dallas SR is having a one day reunion on Saturday, July 20th 2013

Here's what I would do:

1. Apply to the Austin SR Valley

2. Enclosed a check for $500.00 that is the joining fee

3. Call the secretary at Austin SR and tell them you want to petition to join and you are sending a signed application and check. Also you have to have TWO Scottish Rite masons sign it and they have to have a current SR dues card (one signature asks for the brothers membership number)

4. Ask the secretary if you can have the Dallas SR preform a curtesy degree on you so you can go to the one day class on July 20th.

5. If all is approved drive to Dallas and stay for one night in a hotel (Hampton Inn etc).

That's what I did only I drove to Galveston because I wanted to get the degrees done you can always go back and watch the degrees again later and learn more about them.

I'm a member o the Austin SR. We're currently working a class through the degrees. In fact, we had a reunion this weekend. I'd advise contacting the secretary for details if you would like to join in the Valley of Austin. You can also opt to take courtesy degrees elsewhere or join another Valley if you like, but I'd advise contacting the secretary before making a decision.

I'm hoping to become a dual member with the Dallas Scottish Rite. I am already a member of the AASR in the Northern jurisdicition. Does anyone know what the costs are in Dallas? I know I could call them but I would just like to have an idea of what the costs are before I call them.

Bill,

Each SR website you have to dig deep. And just too complicated. They should revise them. How's it going Bro? When are you coming my way to visit?

Lol. You are right Brother! I have been looking at a lot of SR websites recently while working in my project for the Supreme Council and a lot if them makes me shake my head in disgust.

I am with Masonic websites the way many folks are about stray puppies. I want to adopt them all but I also know I can't afford to have all if them and couldn't bear all the frustration that comes with them :) lol

I hear ya. I'm trying to get some sort of discussion going about me redoing the FW SR website. It's pretty bad.

Haha it's pretty painfully obvious that the FW valley site needs some major TLC!

What's your project?

I have been asked to help with freemasonnetwork.org add content and get more traffic to the website and try to get more men to use it.

It's sad because it is a great site with lots of potential but no one is using it.
