Are lodges having many younger men joining?

I was just curious if many lodges are initiating many younger men. I know I hear one of the biggest problems in masonry is getting young men to join. I will say since this past January our lodge has initiated 5 under the age of 26, i was one of them. I am very proud to say that we have a fair amount of good young men who seem very interested to learn more and grow in masonry. I hope this is the case for many other lodges.

I'm the youngest in my lodge at the age of 20, but the next youngest is 40-something. Other lodges in my jurisdiction are getting younger members, especially the more esoteric-centered lodges.

30 isn't old. Lol. There is a few podcasts on life masonic about this subject. The S.G.C of scottish rite has a great p.o.v on it. This day and age people are desensitized by technology. The thought of meeting,talking and thinking as a group and coming to agreements is no longer common placed. Some Young men don't see the advantages of spanning the age gap and realizing that there is so much more to life than a fast car or the next paycheck. The thought of going to a lodge and hanging out with older gentlemen does not seem fascinating. What some young men don't realize is the fellowship and knowledge they are giving up for material things that are a temporary satisfaction. The feeling you get when you go to lodge and you are called brother by men you would normally not interact with on an individual basis. Men who will guide you and see you through life's troubles and triumphs. A true BLUE /G\ friend. You cant get that on the internet.

Its great to hear that some lodges are bringing in younger brothers. Solomon1979, you are absolutely right. Im currently in college and the town is tiny and if the university wasn't there the town probably wouldn't exist anymore. I have people ask me why I like going and hanging out with old men and its hard to even answer them sometimes because I just don't think they would understand. I personally know that all my brothers young and old (but especially the older ones) are wise and are there for me to build a strong brotherhood with. One where i can learn lessons and gain knowledge on all aspects of life. What's better is the fact that I know these men are more than happy to educate and enlighten me. I am very thankful for the blessing God bestowed on me by allowing me to become a mason and join a great brotherhood that is full of amazing men who want to help me and everyone else be their best. Real relationships built on brotherly love and loyalty is something this world is in dire need of now more than ever.

I am 23 and will be going to the lodge later today (Thursday) for my second dinner with the gentleman there. Read a lot this week and still excited to join, but maybe for slightly different reasons. Thanks. Looking forward to being raised and receiving light!

We've had quite a few EA's in their teens/early 20's. I believe one of the newer EA's in my Lodge is even a member here! (I can't remember his username though)

I joined the lodge at age 18 while I was still in high school. Instead of hanging out with my friends and possibly the wrong crowd, I went and learned my lectures and had a great time doing so.

Bright Hope in Knoxville Tn is initiating 8 this month alone. I find this exciting and way different then the Eastern Star of the same lodge who is average age of seventy.

We're having quite a number of younger men walking through our doors and eventually petitioning. I think in the past year I've done maybe 10-12 EA degrees and almost all of them have been younger than me (I'm 36 UGH!). Its like a tidal wave, younger men come in and visit and see other younger men and they bring their friends, etc.

I'm currently 31 the youngest in my lodge but I'm also in a town of 1900 people according to the 2010 census I would like to see some younger then me join our lodge

I'm the youngest in my lodge my at least 6 years and I'm only 22, I got raised to MM last October when I was 21. I do think I am the youngest in my district as well. It would be nice to to see younger gentleman around my age interested in the craft and join. But most college age men would rather join a college fraternity and party or a lot of them have no idea what freemasonry is. Personally I think a lot of it has to stem from the late 1960's and 1970's with the anti war and government movements and with the hippie generations. Since they would refuse to join or maybe their fathers would not let them become masons because of their ideals, and it Carries over to the following generation like myself who parents grew up in that era and don't speak of it or maybe think it is a bad thing for them.

Hi guys.

I joined the lodge 6 months ago when I was 26. The next age is around 45 and the average age in our lodge has got to be well over 50.
It was a bit weird at first but its completely normal to me now.
:)
