Prince Hall Masons

Hello from New Jersey! Some time this past week I crossed paths with a man who was wearing a hat and shirt with the square and compasses. I instantly smiled and said "Hello how are you?" And shook his hand. He practically ignored me and kept walking. I was standing there dazed and confused. I heard that our Prince Hall brethren carry themselves differently, however my personal friends who are Prince Hall Masons act just the opposite. What is your take on this brothers?

Not to sound cliche but we cant say for sure without being in the mans head. He could have been in a rush, preoccupied or just skeptical of your intentions.

Are you a ms mason in jersey?

He could of not been a mason and just so happened to be wearing a shirt with the S&C. I know a few lodges in my area sponsor softball and soccer teams and the S&C and the lodge name are on the jerseys and I know the people I saw wearing them were not Masons.

How does man + hat and shirt + square and compasses = Prince Hall Freemason?

I was rather close to a Prince Hall Lodge I just figured as much. By ms do you mean MM? Yes, Pitman Lodge #197 F&AM. Also I suppose you're right perryel. I should not assume anything, maybe one day we will meet again in our travels.

The other day an older gentleman was helping me load my car with supplies. Moments after I got in, started my car, he came knocking at my window. I rolled it down and with a warm smile, he asked me a certain question. I immediately knew he was a Mason and sure enough, he was a member of a local Prince Hall Lodge. He assumed that I was a Mason being that I have a set of S&C plates on my car. We had a great conversation about the Craft (nothing esoteric of course), but it was one of those moments where I was proud to be a Mason. I didn't care if he was Prince Hall or not. We were just two travelers who happened to cross paths for a brief moment in time.

He may have not been a brother. I've been in prince hall and international mason , and we have always recognize one another.

NO PHGL recognizes International masons, nor have they ever recognized them.

That's lodge to lodge.

For brother to brother how often do you check dues cards if you meet in the mundane world? "Good morning my brother." "Good morning back brother." See the ring or car symbol, give the benefit of the doubt until it's time to attend lodge, I figure. Not the same meaning of the word "recognize" but it's what I think GeeDunk meant.

From his phrasing "I've been in prince hall and international mason" I can't tell if that means he started as International and has been healed, transferred the other direction, is International and is not aware of their clandestine status or wasn't careful with his wording.

If I may try to clear something up, I started in prince hall in Atlanta ga. Then the town I move to was mainly international. Then I meet some prince hall brothers, and we all got alone just fine. I was welcome to the lodge and all. But who's to say who are real or not.for a long time prince hall wasn't recognize because of the way he became a mason. Just like the church, just cause one member branch off and start another church does that mean that church isn't real. If we all believe in Christ. What is the big fuss about. The bible says you should love your brother no matter who they are.

Maybe, the young man was not a true brother, or a very new one at that.

Getting along with a PH brother, which should happen anyway, does not equal recognition by PHGLs. I just want to make that clear because misinformation is easily spread if things aren't crystal clear. I welcome many profanes to our lodge to look around and meet everyone, but once that meeting is about to start, we politely excuse them.

International Free & Accepted Modern Masons is a clandestine organization that originally received it's BUSINESS LICENSE (not Masonic Charter) from the US Government to open a chain of Beauty and Barber Schools. It has no proper Masonic lineage. The man who founded IF&AMM, Mr William V. Banks, was a lawyer who was never made a Mason in a proper Masonic Lodge.
