If you were running/making yourself available for the Grand South (GLoTX), what would you run on?

When I cast my individual vote for a brother running for the South, I always look at their blue lodge activity. I want to see a brother that wasnt just active when he was in the chairs, but remains active in his lodge.

I personally want a Grand Junior Warden that is dedicated and active in his home lodge while he can be a Grand Lodge officer.

I also look at his activities in the quarries. What qualifications does he have? Involvment in committees? Charities?

What I dont necessarily look at, or it has minimal impact, is his civilian occupation, family, or positions in appendant and concordant bodies.

Thats just my personal take on the position.

The candidate for Grand Junior Warden should be someone who does not amke himself out to be a "sheeple".

We need strong, outgoing, younger leadership to help incite the changes that the younger generation would like to see... (ex. visitation issue).

I'd look at what he claims his intentions to be. Ideally he would be a shaker thats willing to challenge the status quo.

A candidate for the grand line to me needs activity, accomplishment and means. In the jurisdiction where I have attended GL the most times there is a committee who nominates brothers into the grand line plus there are occasionally contested elections for the position. The committee wants written recommendations. I've been asked to recommend a couple of brothers over the years. I was present at one contested election.

At the blue lodge level we can afford to use the internal not the external qualifications. At the grand lodge level we can't afford that luxury. Moving through the grand line costs more than is reimbursed and it is a full time occupation for at least the year in the grand east. A MW GM told me he had burned through a car as he progressed through the progressive grand line, a car when he was installed as GM and was going to get yet another car when he finished his year if his current car made it that long. And that was in Illinois which is smaller than Texas. The mileage budget was sufficient to pay less than half of the actual cost of the cars, gas and maintenance during that time.

A candidate for the grand line needs to be active at more than the district level. Serve on committees and have a track record of being proactive int he duties of that committee. Be active in a couple of concordant bodies. He needs to be known widely enough that brothers of my lodge recognize his name. That does take some amount of glad-handing of the sort that gets a brother into the Shrine line.

Bro Blake asked and I mentioned accomplishments. As the founder of the most active Masonic forum in Texas and one of the most active in the world that certainly counts as accomplishment.

Attributes I don't consider that other brothers do - Certificates in ritual proficiency or membership on the Committee on Work. Being vetted by the previous grand line through service in non-progressive appointed grand office chairs.

As, I hope you brothers know, I can now say that I am "officially' recognized , not that any Mason I ever met had any doubt about my mason hood after being in my presence for a while, anyway to the inquiry posed by brother Blake, a brother who has a desire to serve, whatever the office, should run on the fact that he is duly qualified & and well recommended , ideally any brother that can't do the work wouldn't apply for the Job. Never considered the money aspect , time yes. In closing brothers if you have something that contributes to the general fund of knowledge it is our duty to impart that on those we deem worthy!!!
