Late Dues Payment

Last year the Secretary of our Lodge completely botched sending our dues payment notifications, not to mention having the cards ready. I didn't receive last years dues card until November 2013!

This year I had every intention of attending our Stated Meeting on January 6th so that I could pay and receive my new card in person but my ex-wife fell ill so I offered to keep the boys.

Just a few days ago I received an email from a Past Master/DDGM (Not the Lodge Secretary) informing me that my dues are late and that he would hate for me "to be suspended for non-payment". Seriously?! I immediately contacted a handful of other Lodge members who informed me they haven't submitted their payments yet, but also never received the email I did.

When it was all said and done I informed the PM, WM and SW that I didn't feel like screwing around with 2-3 people to get a dues card like last year. A payment will be submitted in person when I attend a meeting or practice and fully expect a renewed dues card in return.

How does your Suspensions there work?

I believe we actually have to vote on the brother in order to suspend him based on NJ's constitution.

...if the lodge actually gets around to suspensions.

Our secretary adopted a new born boy recently. He was also about 2 years past when he wanted to retire, so it's been a lodge-wide effort to help him keep caught up. Not complaining. It's been great for a lot of our other members to see HOW MUCH a secretary actually has to do.

I bet you DDGM was just trying to motivate some payments. I'd just make it a point to smile at him while you paid it at your next stated meeting.

I've been a Freemason for 10 years, and this was my first year to pay on time. It's not the end of the world if you run a little late. Not optimal, but they're not going to suspend you until June...if it happens at all.

Sounds like your DDGM needs to have a chat with you Secretary.Maybe he needs to retire.

I want to say that his lodge may have taken care of that last year. I don't know if its a result of this but I seem to recall Blake or someone else saying something along those lines.
