Valley of Houston Stated Meeting and Feast of Consistory

Brethren,

This week will be the first Stated Meeting since I was made a Scottish Rite Mason and at the reunion "dress code" wasn't mentioned. There was a wide range of dress at the reunion itself. My Blue Lodge is (happily) one with a somewhat relaxed dress tradition, so I'm used to attending pretty much any function that is not a special occasion in a simple button-up and dress pants. Those of you who are members of the Valley here, could you advise what dress is expected for the Stated and the Feast?

Thanks!

Personally, I always wear a suit to our SR meetings minus the tie. Most others are wearing suits as well.

Thanks. That is kind of what I was guessing, though I'm glad to hear that you tend to go without the tie (I hate wearing ties, to a greater degree than I dislike wearing suits).
Guess it is time to invest in a new suit :) I pulled the only one I have out of the closet for the Reunion (they asked us on the first day to bring dress clothes for the photo on the second day) to find that, in the 10 or so years since I last had to wear it, it is now too big for me...

Nobody likes a braggart. Ha ha, jk. I had the opposite problem.

LOL. The worst part of it is actually that it seems whenever I bought said suit, I simply didn't care about the fit. The pants are the most egregious in that they are far too long. I know I'm not shorter now than I was then, so I must have not cared that I was going to be walking on them when I got it. Nowadays, if I'm going to wear a suit, I figure it should at least fit well :)

I am of the opinion the three most important people in a man's "support team" in life are his doctor, his lawyer, and his tailor. ;)

One of the lesser items on my list of why I petitioned for my degrees is that Masonry is often a dress up club. I have worn a tuxedo enough that it's just another work uniform to me now. As to fitting, I own two these days. The bigger one almost still fits. Sigh.

Yeah, after seeing just how many lodges do go for formal wear it makes me that much more grateful that my mother lodge is a nice casual to business-casual Texas one. I've never wanted to work anywhere that would require a suit either. If I had to wear one (let alone blow money on a penguin costume ;)) often at all it would, to put it mildly, severely detract from my enjoyment of all of the good parts. The fact that I'm willing to for SR Stateds and for special occasions at my mother lodge is a big deal, especially in our wonderful Texas heat. Maybe, not likely, but maybe, I will start to hate suits a little less.

All that said, apparently my wife is looking forward to me having a "nice suit" that I wear on occasion....

Often I do see several members wear a nice pair of jeans, cowboy boots, button-down shirt, and suit coat/blazer to the SR stated meetings (myself among them during the dead heat of summer), though slacks or suit pants are more the norm. Once you see it, I'm sure you'll agree that it looks pretty nice along w/ the SR prayer caps.

Oak Forest is my mother lodge, but not my home lodge now. My current lodge is much more relaxed than most and jeans with t-shirts and/or collared shirts are quite common...even on degree nights. When I was at Oak Forest, I was strongly encouraged to wear a shirt with tie, or even sports coat when giving the lecture for a degree. At my current lodge, it's not as important.

When I was in the Scottish Rite, if I attended a stated meeting, I often wore whatever I wore to work and I think a good many other did as well (which would explain a great deal). I think the same was the case when I was active at Oak Forest and I seldom had time to go home to change before I had to be at lodge.

Thanks everyone. There was a variety of shirts, but most everyone had at least a suit jacket (there may have been a few simply in sport coats) on (perhaps because last night was the Feast of Consistory).

You'll generally see suits at the Valley of Houston. I would also say 70% tie, but that's a little more hit or miss.
