Okay, so the HO Studley Tool chest which features a Square and Compass was recently mentioned here....
http://www.myfreemasonry.com/threads/the-h-o-studley-tool-chest.27371/
this got me looking at woodworking (which I used to love but dont have the time or space for) and pianos and all sorts of things. I've burnt a fair bit of time looking at amazing woodworking projects, love these old tool chests and you can see why Bro Studley's is to well regarded...

Now, I dont play the piano and have never really been into keyboards (I was a guitar man) but while looking at all this woodworking and piano making stuff, I came across the below site for the Piano Restoration Company... I've been watching the videos because they are really well done and (I think) interesting... the GF will like it, because she's right into this stuff and has a baby grand...

Anyway, I thought I'd share and start a thread where thread drift is encouraged !

Where will Studley, pianos and woodworking lead us ?

When I Petitioned my lodge I was studying woodworking and design, and working in a cabinet shop. After my Initiation (and throughout my Degrees) I spent a lot of time looking at the tools around me, the tools I used everyday. Like a stoneworker my work had to be square, level, and plumb.
If you appreciate good tools you should check out

Warning: this is tool-porn at its finest.

OMG...the hand planes on the last slider image at https://www.lie-nielsen.com/ are beautiful !

Looking at the Studley Tool Chest was a bad idea... I feel like a drug addict who has not thought about a hit for years now my mind keeps wandering back to making dovetails using beautiful timber and tools..

I've actually thought about tidying up my tool chest and donating it to lodge... or at least keeping it there (LOCKED!).. I've got some great tools of my grandfathers. My fav chisels I actually purchased in cheap antique shop for $5 each. They had been completely covered in lacquer.. but, although some were a bit pitted, they were Sheffield Steel.. they are OLD... but keep their edge using hard timbers... buy of the century !

Heheh, those planes are even nicer in your hand. I resurrected numerous chisels over the years. Some took hours to flatten because of pitting, but once they're done regular maintenance is all you need.

Yep..I only own three which were new. They're American but the brand escapes me. Parents purchased them for me for birthday present when I was around 15, sliced my forearm open on Christmas eve finising a present when I was about 15 and 29 years on, you can still see the scar. It was the only time I ever hurt myself..... Old tools are the best. I have planes like that, minus the beauty.. Biggest plane I have is about 3' long, but I've never used it.. it looks ancient and came out of my grandfathers workshop and I think it was his dads.

I keep watching videos in that piano web site. The info is interesting and the guy is obviously passionate about his work without being over the top.. its great to see all those pre-depression pianos being restored..

I reckon you could easily sell them at markets or one line... they really more art than "projects" they might not be everyone's cup of tea but I think them a lot...
