Brother mason for 65 years

If you brothers could keep a dear brother masons family in your prayers. He went home this morning. He was a brother mason for over 65 years. He was also one of the last remaining WWII vets. What saddens me the most is that none of his lodge brothers came to visit him while he was in the hosiptial. I called his GL and verified that he was active at his time of death. He was the oldest living mason in his jurisdiction. He will not be having a masonic funeral, because his wife stated he never told her he wanted one. Again brothers, keep his family in your prayers.

Prayers being sent.

And let this be a caution to all of us in two ways. Make sure your lodge keeps up on the brothers so that no one is left without a visit or an inquiry to see if some form of charity is needed. Secondly, make sure your family knows if you want a Masonic Service and that they have the contact information of your lodge Secretary "just in case." Don't leave it to an assumption by your grieving family.

I feel like if he was active then someone should go to the Wife and ask for permission to conduct the Masonic Funeral. It is a beautiful ceremony and just because he never actually spoke it aloud Im sure he wanted one.....Prayers out!

Im sure he wanted one as well. As a matter of fact, before he got really bad sick, I asked him if he wanted a masonic burial later in life when he passed and he said yes.

There is a lesson there... everyone knows I want a masonic funeral... and I'm only 45... you never know..

Hold a masonic funeral in absentia at the lodge is my advice.. you can't go against the wife.... and I can think of a brother whose wife would say no because the in-laws dont know he's a brother.. in that case, for my close friend and brother.. I'd be gathering at the grave a week or two after the burial..
