Possible Fundraiser

Disclaimer: Please remove this thread if it is deemed inappropriate. My intentions are not to benefit myself, but to help your Lodge. However, I would gain some benefit from the following idea.

I am a Business Partner and Distributor for a new streaming TV service called VIP TV. The service only costs $39 per month for over 900 live high definition channels, a great sports package, premium movie channels, and free pay-per-view. You can access this service on computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, Amazon FireTV, and ROKU devices. You can stream live tv on up to 5 devices simultaneously. All that is needed is a high speed internet connection and a compatible device.

Now for the fundraising part. This company has a great referral program and if you sign your Lodge / designated member as a Distributor, you will earn $5 from every person that signs up for the service. This is a residual commission, so each month that person renews the subscription, you would receive another $5. Think about how many Brothers you have in your Lodge and that money can add up in a hurry. The only cost is you must pay for the service of $39.

As I stated at the beginning, I would earn a commission if you choose to sign up but I am only posting this as I think it could be a great fundraising opportunity that would provide a monthly income for your charitable projects.

If you would like to learn more about this service you can visit my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/saynetv

If anyone feels that this post is not appropriate, please remove this thread as my intentions are meant to be helpful.

Thank you Brethren,
John Sayne

I think the thread should stay. I'm an a director of a company and know money can be raised in the normal course of business activity. Indeed, if I spend $x on customer acquisition through advertising, I'd much rather spend $x on a referral program where funds go back to a worthy cause. I've seen $3.7 million returned to my local community in that very model, by people just doing what they normally do, but with a specific socially responsible Company.3

That's $60 per year from a single customer for lodge for a service they might by anyway. Ten customers is $600 - that's a lot of pancakes. I think your proposal is about working "smarter" not "harder". Over a whole jurisdiction, it could make a quantum of change.

The only downside I see limiting this is technology among the Brethren.

You'd have to convince some members to drop their cable services and have faith in something other than xfinity, TWC or whatever provider they are used to. In order to make it work, you'd have to convince a Brother stuck in his ways to:
- Drop their triple play package.
- Get Blast internet at a minimum.
- Invest in wireless technology that can deliver the demands their devices require. This would entail wiring their home, utilizing access points or using the plug-in method to piggyback off their power lines.
- Drop their home number they had for years and utilize a Google Voice number with the 50 dollar puck to hook up a "home" phone OR just use their cell number.
- Upgrade other equipment such as TVs to accept the hardware needed to go cable free.

I know I sound like a downer, but to make it worthy, we'd have to get 7 converts just to break even.

We have 200 members. 1000 dollars minus the business cable bill and access sounds great. However, I'm skeptical at what I could get number wise if I were to pitch this.

To view this service on a TV all that is needed is a internet connection minimum 10 mbps with wifi and an Amazon FireTV stick. The TV needs to have an HDMI port for the Fire stick. If you sign up 8 people then the expense of being a distributor is covered. Anything above 8 subscribers is pure profit and you can promote this service to the general public as well. That is not taking into consideration the performance bonuses this company provides. There is great potential with this service and have been using it myself for over a month now. I am very pleased with what you get for the price. There will certainly be without a doubt some Brothers that will not want to do it. My recommendation would be sign up and try it for a month and if you do not like it then you simply unsubscribe from the service. You can learn more about being a Distributor at the website below.

Another issue is not just the specifics of the commercial offer, but the fact a commercial offer is being made. Many Brothers don't like that sort of thing... and I understand why, you can imagine the reaction to a Brother trying to push his Amway product at meetings, that said, if you're doing something like buying milk, why wouldnt you buy the milk from someone who give back some of the profits to charity, same would go for TV..

I certainly hope that I am not coming off as being Spam. I actually have the pleasure of serving as Worshipful Master of my Lodge this year. I have seen how much work it takes for some of the fundraisers that we have done. It takes a lot of ticket sales and even more pancakes before you really make anything substantial for projects. A couple of my Lodge officers approached me with this TV opportunity and I signed up as a Business Partner. My mind went immediately to a way for organizations to earn a sustainable income for their charitable endeavors and that is why I brought it here. We are in the midst of a technology age. This would also be a great project to get some of the younger members of your Lodge engaged.
