Texas vs Oklahoma Masonry

Well it looks like there could be a chance that I could be a Oklahoma mason in near future. Job Opportunities could support this transition. Are there any major differences between these two grand jurisdictions? My wife is from OK but I have never visited a lodge there.

I've never seen a degree done in TX but I witnessed a MM Cat lecture and it was different for sure. Where are you moving to in OK?

I was wanting a 30 min or less drive from Newcastle area. I was looking at Tuttle, Mustang, Yukon, Blanchard areas.

I was going to say if Norman was close enough, they have a T.O. lodge there if that's of any interest for you. Veritas is the name, can't. Remember the number. If you can get in there and you feel it's a good fit, they are a good group.

I haven't been to the other areas really. Edmond is good, but that's my home lodge so I'm partial. Probably too far for you as well.

Norman isn't that far from where I will be....never thought about a TO lodge as I am in fairly rural Texas and you have to go to places like Dallas I'm sure to get something like that. It will definitely be interesting to check out. I have always needed a tux....lol

It may be worth a peek. If I recall correctly, they meet once a month no matter what; degree work or just simply a stated meeting. It's a bit more of a strenuous"vetting" process to get affiliated but could be worth the effort. Good luck either way, brother.

Thanks for the heads up. It may be a place to try on and see if it sticks.

Good luck with the career and move Brother.

Thanks brother. It is not a done deal yet, but as time progresses the opportunity is looking better....the move I dread. Got to buy or rent a place, list and sell one in Texas, and get my family up there. All while working full time and on rotating shift. Ought to be a challenge.....

Mustang has a really nice Lodge building. They do a lot of stuff all the time. They also had a benefactor leave a large sum of money for the lodge when he passed and they completely remodeled the building. I am not sure about the other lodges.

Here is a link to Veritas #556 in Norman:http://www.lodgeveritas.org/
Mustang #407: http://mustangmasons.org/wp/

If you have any other questions or anything feel free to shoot me a message.

Thanks for he feedback brothers. I did get an offer to go to this job, just letting my family mull it over.... will be a pain to pack up house and sell. Move and rent and then buy a new place.....let the stress begin!

It's tough but will likely be worth it. I moved from OKC to Rochester, NY last year and it was challenging, however, at the end, it was worth it. Finding the right lodge is half the fun. It's sort of a way to start fresh since you can shop around for lodges to find the right fit. You never know, you may work with some brothers. I discovered two here where I work. I wear a lanyard with my work ID on it and would put my S&C on the lanyard necklace to catch someone's eye and it worked. As a piece of advice, and you probably already know this, get some low deductible home insurance. ;)
