GL of PA Master Builders Award

Last night I had the pleasure to be presented with the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Master Builders Award by our DDGM Bro. Jeffery S. Heller

This program is designed to integrate new Brothers into the fraternity by having a list of required and optional activities which must be completed during the year after being raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. I completed these requirements last November, but Grand Lodge Awards are only presented at meetings of the Grand Lodge or Official Visitations of the DDGM. As last night was the District visitation at our lodge I was presented with the award last night.

If there are other PA Masons reading this I can highly recommend this program. For those who have already passed a year since raising there is also a Master Craftsman Award, with much of the same requirements and the Master Pillar Award for those who are going through the chairs.

Congrats. Any chance you could share the program? Would be interesting to see the activities.

Sure thing:

For the Master Builder & Master Craftsman the activities are the same, except in the case of the Master Craftsman ALL of the second set of activities must be completed vs 3 for the Master builder.

A) Complete the Grand Lodge On-Line Mentorship Program and Masonic History Course

B) An applicant for this award must complete all of the following:
  1. Attend a Stated Meeting of your home lodge.
  2. Attend an Extra Meeting of your home lodge.
  3. Attend at least one meeting of another lodge in your District.
  4. Serve as greeter for one of your lodge’s Stated Meetings.
  5. Attend an Official Visitation of the DDGM within your District.
  6. Attend at least one of your lodge’s fellowship events.
  7. Assist in a fundraising event held by your lodge (if applicable).
  8. Completion of your Blue Lodge’s Mentor Program as required by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania’s Education Committee.
  9. Attend a youth group meeting within your District or region.
  10. Assist the Secretary or other members in contacting members in danger of being suspended to discuss with them what you believe to be the benefits of their Masonic membership.
C) An applicant for the award must complete three of the following:
  1. Participate in a degree conferred by your lodge.
  2. Be the first-line signer on a petition for membership in your lodge.
  3. Contact a brother who has not attended lodge in the last six months and invite him to accompany you to the next Stated Meeting. (The brother must accept and attend in order for these criteria to be completed.)
  4. Assume responsibility for arranging a Masonic Education program for your lodge. This may be done by you or by someone else via your invitation with the Worshipful Master’s approval.
  5. Attend a Quarterly Communication of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.
  6. Attend either a stated meeting of The Pennsylvania Lodge of Research or the Academy of Masonic Knowledge.

For the Master Pillar award Part C is:
1. Participate in a degree conferred by your lodge.
2. Be the first line signer on a petition for membership in your lodge.
3. Contact a brother who has not attended lodge in the last six months and invite him to accompany you to the next stated meeting. (The brother must accept and attend in order for these criteria to be completed.)
4. Assume responsibility for arranging a Masonic Education program for your lodge. This may be done by you or by someone else by your invitation with the Worshipful Master’s approval.
5. Attend a quarterly communication of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.
6. Attend either a stated meeting of The Pennsylvania Lodge of Research or the Academy of Masonic Knowledge.
7. Verification of the conferral of all three degrees and serving as Junior Warden; Senior Warden and Worshipful Master ***

This is a most excellent idea. Very many jurisdictions have lodge programs like that. This is the first time I have seen such a list formalized for candidates and newly obligated Brothers.

We have something similar for rookie master masons that must be done within their first year called the Brearley Award.

Our lodge had 5 and we just added two more.
