Junior Warden seeks advice

Congratulations on your election, Brother. You are now one of the three principal officers in your Lodge and responsible for the smooth and harmonious operation of your at labor and refreshment. If your Master is sitting in the East for the first time, he is likely beginning to realize the weight of his responsibilities and may even be starting to panic. I know I did! It is up to his Wardens to help him keep things going. Stay in very close and constant contact with him. Be his sounding board and look for ways to make his load lighter. Your GL likely has a booklet or guide on your duties and you should make sure you know those duties inside and out. But more than that, be one of the main supports for your WM. You and the SW should be his trusted lieutenants. I know we always promote that tired line that "family and work come before the Lodge!" But seriously, as a Warden, who may be the Master sooner rather than later if your Lodge uses a progressive line, this is your life right now. You won't truly appreciate how much your diligent assistance means until you sit in the East, hopefully with Wardens as conscientious as you will be. One thing I cannot stress enough is to support your WM and never be negative about them to the Brothers. If you disagree with a position they have taken, talk to him, not about him. The Master and Wardens should be a unified front as the Lodge's leaders. And just as important, start preparing for the next chair and learning his portion of the ritual.

Congratulations Brother! You are now one of the three principal officers of the lodge. I just left the East in one lodge four days ago and tonight I will be installed as Junior Warden in another. You have an exciting three years ahead of you. Brother Winter has given you excellent advice which I advise you to take to heart. Above all....enjoy the journey, pay attention and learn as you go.

Just got elected to Junior Warden of my lodge. I'm excited and would appreciate any advice you may have to offer that may help me in the new year.

Congratulations!! Junior Warden is a very important chair. Make your duty to learn both the Senior Warden's and Worshipful Master's parts. In my Lodge, we allow the Junior Warden to confer the EA degree. Perhaps your Lodge does too. Study study study. Look well to the South!

My year in the South officially ends in 8 hours.

Your duties are important to the Lodge and the WM. As others have said, support your WM in all things, if you disagree with a decision, voice it to him privately and if he continues with it still, support it. In PA the JW is responsible for the Trestle Board for Extra Meetings and making sure the Appointed Officer's chairs are filled at Stated Meetings. Get to know the Brethren in your Lodge and you you can seek out to fill a chair for a last minute absence. In our Lodge the JW is also in charge of the work of the Stewards, do this with pleasantness and in a supportive way.

If your GL has "Officer Training" or "Warden's School" be sure to attend and learn what is being taught. It will help you through the year.

Especially, pay attention to the programs at your and other Lodges in your District, start to note what works and what could be done better. The year will fly by and before you know it you will be in the West with just a year to plan your year in the East.

Yes, I was elected and Installed as SW at our December Stated Meeting on the 12. Here in PA, however we do not officially assume Office until Midnight on St. John the Evangelist Day (December 27th.)
Congratulations Brother. A year from today I will be calling you Worshipful Master Keith!
