Do you hear from your brothers?

How often do you hear from your brothers?
Not about doing something at the next degree, meeting or fundraiser but just to chat?
Talk some subject of masonry, life or otherwise?

A few here and there via email. Met a brother recently that we had emailed each other back and forth on a lot of esoteric sort of things. Was refreshing but other than that not too much. One or two on text sometimes but not very often. That's partly my fault too I would admit.

I have a very small circle that I periodically may hear from vis phone or email...over time we all drift in varying directions based on our interests or life pursuits it seems but we do remain connected in some way.

All the time. But mostly not lodge Brothers.

That being said, I have taken the time to cultivate relationships with them and, as a result, we are part of each others' lives.

It’s hard to hangout outside of Lodge because of our schedules

We work really hard on this. Our next meeting is not until the 14 Feb, but we have already got together once with an open invite for a beer - about 15 turned up.

I always tell Masters the best working tool of a WM is the phone - I would say it would be rare that a few days pass without me hearing from someone in my mother lodge, but my second lodge is not as cohesive. Over Christmas (including Christmas Day) I heard from brothers, but that's no accident as I constantly reach out to them. During the holidays I spent a few days with friends who are also members of my lodge. Again, that did not just happen but was worked on to make happen.

Lodge is like any relationship - you only get out of it if you put in. Creating social cohesion in a lodge is so important and it often starts with a small group getting together and inviting others.. For our Jan beer, we went to a hip brewery and a lot of young'uns turned up, but it was great we had one brother over 80 with us and another brother over 90 (because his son is a member and brought it)...

As SW hardly a day goes by that I do not have an email or text exchange with the Secretary, WM, SD, one of several PMs and/or DDGM.

We have an active FB group for our Lodge, our District and our HRA Grand Chapter District, and there is activity there almost daily.

I talk on the phone a couple times a week with several Officers and Brothers.

We have a monthly get together that we call "The Compass Club" at a rotating set of watering holes. Nothing "official" as that would be frowned upon by the Powers that Be, but a bunch of Brothers get together and socialize.

I would say I communicate with 3-4 Brothers a couple times per week, 2-3 more once a week, and the rest usually at Meetings. We are trying to improve on it.

My present lodge is electronically invisible, if you want to contact a Brother you need his info. But being the smallest lodge means there are only a few to check on.
