I think ancient Egypt is the common denominator between Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry because Christian Rosenkeuz had also traveled there to learn and because the UGLE attributes the ancient Egyptian religion as a possible source of the craft. However it is quite strange that today we have to talk about esoteric Masonry as being distinct from mainstream regular Freemasonry when in fact Freemasonry IS esoteric in nature. I think modern-day freemasonry can be viewed as an introductory rite to the Occult and Rosicrucian Mysteries.

Wich occult mysteriet? What so exclusively rosocrucian about freemasonry?

Hello All,

I wanted to share this paper I had written a year or two ago. Hope you enjoy and look forward to any discussion.

Your defenition of theosophists is partly incorrect. Prior to Madame Blavatsky, theosophy was primarly defenied by Jacob Böhme and was more focused on the internal.

A∴A∴ is not a off-shot of HOGD. Its a fully thelemic order wich has the Golden Dawn name for one of its orders but the system is fully based on thelema. The order works in a special way so that the student only knows his teacher. During cermonies they wear robes that hide themself from each other. https://azothart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Robe-w.-detatchable-hood-1.jpg is an example.

I hear you and understand it is a separate Order but it's safe to say anything Crowley had his hands in was HEAVILY influenced by the HOGD. Qabbalistic TOL and ceremonial "magic(k)", not to mention the HOGD is often considered AA's predecessor. If there is no HOGD then it's safe to say there is no AA.

I agree, they cross paths and sort of overlap at some point, which may be as far back as the AER times.

It's unfortunate about the esoteric point you made. I think when (at least in the U.S.) we became commonplace with over 4M members, the Craft became common, was redesigned to be more digestible for the "common man". Lost its intrigue or value. Sort of like the housing bubble here a few years ago haha.

I wanted to mention the theosophy definition, but just to put into context what it is like researching these things, this subject is about as historically accurate as the movie 300. People will stake claim to things or say things to fit their narrative and agenda. The "Cipher Manuscript" alone...come on, they themselves were a little fishy to say the least yet GD members rarely question their origins or authenticity.

True. AA was established in a way that to avoid the infighting of HOGD. However things like crossing the abyss and certain other things within the system is original.
While HOGD was a big influence, the system is highly modified in a way that makes it stand on its own.

Im not saying that GD is the whole rosocrucian body.
"the Rosicrucians were Theosophists, religious men whose doctrines were of spirits, of the elements, of numbers and heavenly bodies and their influence on men" is what Im talking about. The teosopy that influenced the rosocrucians was Böhmes, wich is more complex and more focused on the internal.

I'm really enjoying both the original article and the subsequent discussion. As interested as I am in Rosicrucianism, this just highlights how much I still have to learn.

Thank you.
