Oh, with that tone in your voice, you asked! : )
LOL.. nah.. just looking for guidance if I invest the considerable time to do so... but I love the function in youtube which allows you to watch at 1.25 or 1.5, 1.75 or x 2 speed.. I hardly ever watch a youtube on normal speed.. unless it is music - but even then, it often sounds better sped up !

Maybe after this week when the US AMD and other bodies are finished with annual meetings.
I'm interested, but also time poor. I also don't know much about it so will not be able to critique it much on "facts" - but was going to have lunch today starting to watch it in installments.. but the phone started ringing.. and that plan went astray. I will let you know what I think if I get the time to watch it

Oh, now it's the phone's fault ! Reeeally : )

If you'd like to read more on the subject, I found David Stevenson's "The Origins of Freemasonry - Scotland's century 1590-1710" rather good. Although the Grand Lodge of Scotland was formed in 1736, so the book covers what led to that (and more).

So I have been working away at this. The presentation is actually not as long as it may appear, but the Q&A is where the length is. Both are very good, but I am probably enjoying the Q&A more.

This solidifies my understanding (rightly or wrongly) of the nature of "Scottish Freemasonry" (as in under the Grand Lodge of Scotland... and its descendants).

Grand Lodge Scotland was one of the four Grand Lodges (England, Scotland, Ireland and Grand Lodge Victoria) which came together for form United Grand Lodge Victoria in 1889. I can still see the Scottish approach here - Lodges looking to do their own thing, looking to GL for support and advice, not regulation and only the broadest rule.. with "we suggest" rather than "you shall do" from GL. Part of that is also the Scottish Freemasons we have here from all over, especially Scotland itself and South Africa..

He is a good presenter. I have read material from Bro Bob Cooper but not seen him in action.

Thanks for pointing this out @Glen Cook

I have been watching it at Sapere Aude

Sapere Aude has been a good channel and their videos are here https://www.youtube.com/c/SapereAudeLectures/videos

Another good channel I found which sprung up during COVID was Freemasons without Borders

So much to read and see... so little time :)

I heard about Lodge Gordon's plans to work the Rectified Scottish Rite for the Craft Degrees on a podcast with RWBro. Kent Henderson. Interesting.

In NSW & ACT a few lodges are permitted to only exemplify the Écossais Craft Degrees instead of work them.

Poor old Gordon Lodge. It has been removed from it's historic building because UGLV deemed it unsafe. Kent and Brendan and others are keen on these RSR and it was approved by the previous MWGM and the Board of General Purposes, which has since "dissolved" itself, and the current MWGM has put a governing council in, but will not make big changes. Some of the movers and shakers have been distracted by other matters, so I would not be surprised if it does not get going (if it does get going) until 2022... but who knows..

Under the last MWGM we had a Filipino Lodge formed working Filipino Ritual (Kent was a Founder, Plaridel Lodge) and a Scottish Lodge working Scottish (McBride I am told, but not seen it, Kent was a Founder, Earl of Dunmore). Some see them as some sort of abomination.. both are on my list to visit, but been too busy to do so... but I did drop into the South for the Filipino Lodge on the day of its concentration and a few weeks ago the WM initiated two of his sons :)

Thanks for the detailed response Bro @Bloke and indulging my "thread drift" as you say.

I did hear some rumblings about the UGLV goings on.

Some see them as some sort of abomination..

Speaking of differing workings in a single jurisdiction, I heard about the unique ceremonies/rituals of the Lodges in Bristol, England - Our History - Province Of Bristol. It seems Provinces of the UGLE and even indivuduals Lodges are permitted to work unique ceremonies. Besides the Province of Bristol one, another such ritual I found after a quick google search was Stability Ritual Association. Apparently Lodges in Scotland go further with many Lodges having their own unique regalia.

Granted, these ceremonies may not differ too much from one another, I was still surprised to see the UGLE being more 'permissive' than many GLs in other parts of the English speaking Masonic world. I would have thought it would have been the other way around.

Good old UGLV, we are in a change management process which might be drifting more than this thread ! But our current MWGM seems to be doing his best and a lot of people have a lot of faith in him... but he has a big job. His term has been extended by 1 year, so he has 3 years on total to try to reform and his successor seems to be speaking the same language.. but we're moving slower than some might like.

Yes, the ritual in England is more varied than we think, there is no official ritual there... and Emulation is not as all dominating as we are led to believe in here Oz.... how Ironic given our Lodge of Emulation here in Vic :) We standardized something which was not standard :) mind you, I do like our lodges being overwhelmingly standard in ritual.

Somewhere in here, Glen Cook posted a list of all the rituals used, was interesting :)
