Oscar-nominated Dirty Pretty Things writer Steven Knight has been hired to adapt Dan Brown's latest Robert Langdon thriller The Lost Symbol, says Variety.

The follow-up to The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons centres on Langdon decoding the symbols of the Freemasons. Tom Hanks is expected to return to the lead role, but director Ron Howard's involvement has yet to be confirmed by Sony Pictures.

Brown's Lost Symbol shot straight to the top of the bestseller list when it hit shelves last September. The novel sold 1 million copies on its first day on release, while his book sales have totalled more than 80 million worldwide.

From my understanding Dan Brown is pro-Mason. The book was pretty interesting, and he had to have some Masonic help to know some of the things in the book.

I actually liked Angels and Demons more than Davinci Code.
they were completely different. i liked that they didn't just do the same thing twice. i hope they do the same here.

I read an article that after the book and movie dust settles that he is interested in becoming a mason.

I think he did a lot of research. He combined info from Blue Lodge and the appendant bodies as facts that only a Mason would catch. It was a very good story.

I didn't like the book. The plot was far too transparent, even though he tried at every turn to throw new twists in there. At the end of that book I felt like I had been mugged and left for dead in a dark alley. I expected so much more of the ending.
