Annoyed?

Reading through the recent lodge newsletter, there are 4 articles. And all 4 concern money. You want to know how to turn someone off? Keep whining about money.

I'm sure I don't know what the answer is, but I just don't think a newsletter yelling at brothers about this and that needing money is going to get the job done.

What lodge newsletter are you referring to? If it is not the GLoT newsletter and if it is an online newsletter, can you post the link on here? I don't like to hear about people whining about money either, but I do like to read the newsletters from other lodges and see what they have going on.

Lol, and I just looked at your join date and posts. I hope you aren't someone that just created an account to make a nasty post..lol If not, welcome to the forum!! haha

I believe what this Brother is referring to is the same situation that ALL Lodges within the GLoTX, the increase of Per Capita. In fact my home Lodge just voted to increase our own dues by $25 per year.

Discussion of money or finances IS an ugly subject. In most cases a needed evil.

Agreed... we recently increased our dues 66% to $75. Now, about half of that was due to the GLoTX's increase in per capita, but still an ugly situation to find yourself in. Still 4 of 4 newsletters about $$$? Maybe attempt to strike a balance? Show what the money is going to?

A little positiveness can go a long way in my book. Keep up with the begging for money, I know its needed but I think we could have been a little wiser on some of our other purchases, and it personally makes me shut down and stop listening.

I know where you're coming from but having been on finance committees off and on for years it is a necessary evil.
If it is in Texas the way it is around me, the vast majority of members don't attend and the only way to communicate the Lodges needs is try to hammer it home in a trestleboard(newsletter) and that will mostly be ignored.

And so it goes.

When I was Master, I recommended raising dues. I sent a letter to every brother with the last year's financial summary. Next meeting, motion passed unanimously with very little discussion. Far less painful than I anticipated. Brethren expect to pay their way.
