What is the difference between the two programs (Master Craftsman Program vs College of the Consistory)? From a 50,000 foot level, the College apepars to be cheaper and more in depth. Is there are reason to do both? Is there a reason to do one over the other?

That is a really good question and I am glad that someone asked about that. I thought that question several days ago, but was driving at the time and decided to wait till I got home to post it but forgot. I do remember reading one of the posts or threads about this a little while back and I thought that someone had said something about "Guthrie County" or something like that so I just assumed that it was something that was only available in that area. Thanks for posting this question Bro. Beathard. I'd like to know as much about this as possible as well. I am already involved in the MCP, but if this is cheaper then hopefully I can get involved in it in the near future as well.

Also, any official website links to this would be appreciated as well. At least by me...lol

The Official Link to the Guthrie Scottish Rite's College of the Consistory. It appears to be open to all parties from all Orients.

Ah, thanks for that quick response. Seems like I can get a lot of the information from that website. You looking at going ahead and doing the College of the Consistory?

Lol, yea I JUST read that as well. I think that it sounds pretty exciting and that it would be a good goal to set. Lol you think you get a pin after completing the five years of study? hahha

I will ask a couple of people I know here and get their opinion of which they liked better. I know that a couple of the Brothers at my Lodge have done both. It might help me down the road also.

But ill find out within 2 weeks i guess. ^_^ Any one know how long the MC will be on back order?

I think the Master Craftsman program was well developed and a much needed tool for the Scottish Rite brethren. It's a nice conduit through which the young seeker can begin to explore the vast content contained within the degrees of the Scottish Rite. But it just simply doesnt compare to the powerful work of the College of the Consistory. In the College, you are given a quick book review type quiz that encourages you to dig into A Bridge To Light. In that regard, it's very similar the Master Craftsman Program. However, the emphasis at the College of the Consistory is really on the papers that you write. And while you are prompted for a short essay in the Master Craftsman Program, the papers you write for the College of the Consistory are the majority of the work you will do. Many people end up writing 10 page reports on each degree. Of course, there's no requirement for such.

The College of the Consistory encourages deep reflection, introspection and personal revelation of the degrees. The act of formulating your thoughts and concreting them to words on paper is powerful work on the sephira Hod. The work not only exposes people to alchemy and qabalah, it presents corespondences to the seeker that allows him to more fully receive the message of the Scottish Rite. And while you could rush through either program, the College of the Consistory is meant to be a process that you spend time on each degree, instead of trying to knock them out quickly. Wheras the Master Craftsman can be rushed through like an open book test from high school.

The Master Craftsman is an intro course. The College of the Consistory is more comprehensive.
