I'm curious if any of your respective lodges print member directories. I want to make it easier for everyone to stay in touch, especially with our members who have moved away or are in poor health. On one hand, a lodge member directory with phone numbers and e-mail almost seems like a no-brainer... except that there have been times and places when being identified as a member could be used against you. What say you? Is it common practice in most lodges here in Texas and we're just late to the game? Or is there a GL rule prohibiting it? Or is it just a bad idea for some other reason?

I just mailed out our directory to all members last week, we have 242 members so the total cost including postage was pretty high (350.00). We plan on for the next couple of years to only print about 100 and give then out to those who attend meetings then in the third or fourth year mail to all members again.

When I was active, we put one out every year at installation.
If some one didn't want their information out there I guess one could ask to not have it in there.

I would suggest that if your lodge has never done one, to ask if anyone has objection to being placed in the directory, either all or part of their information they may not want published.

i have created a excel spreadsheet with name, cell phone and email listing current active members. Next project is to create one for the ones that came before including the widows of the brothers that have gone to Glory. Easy to update and resend.

We have twice. Both times they were obsolete within the month. Spreadsheet or database would be a more practical approach. Yes, there could be problems with the privacy issue.
