Reunions in Other Valleys

Forgive me, but I know this question has been posted somewhere in the forums before, but I just don't have the time right this minute to go searching. In the last four weeks, two of my friends that I grew up with were initiated into the Fraternity (and I had the privelage to be SD for both of them). One of them is VERY interested in joining the Scottish Rite as soon as he is able to and the closest Valley to us is Austin Valley.

Is it possible for him to petition Austin Valley, but recieve the degrees at a Reunion from a different Valley? I ask this because I went through my Reunion in El Paso in 2010 and got to recieve all 29 degress instead of just the terminal ones. I think he would love to see all 29 degrees. So, if Austin Valley at the time that he is able to join is only putting on the terminal degrees but Dallas Valley (for example) was hosting a Reunion with all of them, can he do his there at Dallas instead of Austin? Another reason I guess would be if he petitions right after Austin has a Reunion and it will be some time before they do another, can he go ahead and get it done in Dallas instead of waiting however long it is till Austin does it again?

Great question. I am wondering the same thing. There is a guy at our Lodge that wants to do the Scottish Rite but the Valley we normally participate in has the reunion on a date that he will be out of town. He wants to go to a different one to get the degrees. I hope it is answered so I have an idea to pass on.

Typically valleys will be willing to include you in their reunion as a courtesy to your home valley with prior request. We had 3 courtesy candidates at our last reunion.

I would suggest discussing it with your valley's secretary. After he's turned in a petition and been accepted of course. It shouldn't be a big deal at all.
