Hello All. I am in need of some advice and guidance, please. I recently applied at a lodge and was blackballed.I understand that no reason is needed for dropping a black ball.My question is;when I am eligible to re-apply,what is the procedure?I will be applying at a different lodge, because I have since moved.Any help will be appreciated.Thank you.

It depends upon the Grand Lodge. Under the Grand Lodge of Texas, if a petitioner receives 3 BB's, he must wait for 1 year before repetitioning. 4 BB's- 2 years. 5 or more BB's- 3 years.

So after my wait time, how do I approach the next lodge? Who do I tell about my situation.Do I just petition them and let the investigating team know what happened? Do I need to do anything or get anything before petitioning the new lodge?

You should tell whomever you approach to obtain your petition. The petition should ask the question "Have you ever petitioned any Lodge of Masons for the Degrees or any of them?" or wording to that effect. You should answer in the affirmative and provide full particulars. The investigating committee should contact the Lodge in which you were blackballed to determine why and whether that Lodge would accept another petition from you. The committee should include their findings in their report to the Lodge to be considered in deciding upon your request.

I know several people that have been blackballed because of personal reasons between the "Brethren" (I use the term loosely) so don't think this may be a reflection on you. If you don't know of any reason why it may of happened then you just wait your time. I am reminded of a story of a man that was blackballed then came to be a Grand Lodge Officer so don't let this discourage your journey if this is in fact what you think you want to do.

Before you re-petition, ask your sponsor to take you to some lodge functions open to the public (officer installations, public information night, dinners before a stated meeting, etc).

This will allow the brothers of the lodge to get to know you. Sometimes it's hard to vote in someone who you don't know. If the brothers know your face, and they have seen you are truly interested in joining, then your re-vote will have a better chance of passing.
